Irish senators move to prevent MMA fighter Conor McGregor from running for president of the Republic of Ireland.
Senator Eileen Flynn told The Irish Sun on Friday that she wouldn’t nominate McGregor to wash the dishes. Various other government officials echoed her statements.
McGregor balked at the remark on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, telling Flynn to go see a dentist and that she would be the only reason to bring back masks.
He went on to say that only 5% of Ireland supports the current government and that he has the backing of the masses.
In order to be eligible to run for president, McGregor requires 20 nominations from the Irish parliament. Currently, he has none.

What are the main arguments for and against Conor McGregor’s candidacy for the position of president of Ireland?
To our newsletter.
However, McGregor remains confident in his ability to gain the necessary nominations. He stated in a tweet, “The politicians may not support me, but the people of Ireland do. It’s time for a change, and I am the one to lead it.”
His remarks have sparked a heated debate among Irish citizens. Some believe that McGregor’s fame and success in the sport of mixed martial arts should not automatically qualify him for the position of president. Others argue that his popularity and connection with the people make him a strong candidate.
The Irish Times conducted a poll asking readers if they would support McGregor as president. The results were divided, with 53% stating they would not support him and 47% stating they would.
Senator Flynn and other critics argue that McGregor lacks the necessary experience and qualifications to hold such an important position. They question his understanding of political issues and his ability to make informed decisions for the country.
However, McGregor has responded to these criticisms by highlighting his philanthropic efforts and his desire to make a positive impact on the country. He has pledged to use his platform and wealth to address issues such as homelessness and healthcare.
The final decision ultimately lies with the Irish parliament and the people of Ireland. McGregor will need to secure the necessary nominations and gain popular support in order to move forward with his presidential ambitions.
Only time will tell if Conor McGregor will be able to overcome the obstacles and become a serious contender in the race for presidency. Until then, the debate continues as to whether an MMA fighter can successfully transition into the world of politics.
