Is Moldova on the Brink of War?

Thursday’s announcement by the Russian Defense Ministry that they had intelligence reports that the Zelensky Regime is planning a provocation within Transnistria, Moldova to try and draw the Republic of Moldova into war with Ukraine was made by the Russian Defense Ministry.

“According to obtained information, in the near future, the Kiev regime is planning an armed false-flag operation against the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic which will be implemented by the units of Ukraine’s armed forces with the involvement of the Azov nationalist formation,” According to a spokesperson from the Defense Ministry, this statement was made to reporters.

A spokesperson stated that the invasion would be staged by Russian troops from Transnistria. “To this end, Ukrainian saboteurs involved in the false-flag invasion will be wearing the uniforms of the servicemen of the Russian Federation’s Armed Forces,” He added.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin added that the West had ordered the government in Chișinău to stop any interaction with the Moscow-backed Transnistrian administration.

Officials from Moldova Demand Calm

The news caused panic in the Republic of Moldova. Authorities in Chișinău denied any knowledge of the information presented by the Russian Defense Ministry and issued a call for calm. “We call for calm and invite the public to follow the official and credible sources of the Republic of Moldova. Our institutions cooperate with foreign partners, and in case of any danger to the country, they will inform the public opinion without delay,” The statement was made by the Moldavian Government to TVR Moldova

Analysts believe that the Ukrainians have tried to include Moldova in the conflict recently in an effort to increase the fighting close to NATO borders and strengthen Western support for Zelensky. These efforts are allegedly the direct cause of the recent establishment of a NATO-approved government for Moldova. This possibly led Vladimir Putin earlier this week to withdraw formal Russian recognition of  Moldavia’s sovereignty.

The situation in Moldova has become a tinder box. NATO will be directly involved in the conflict if Ukraine manages to draw Moldova into the conflict, despite recent assurances from Klaus Iohannis, the Romanian President that Romania will protect Moldova’s territorial integrity with all means. Not to be forgotten is that the Republic of Moldova today, as well as southern Bessarabia, and northern Bucovina, currently reside in Ukraine, were historical Romanian territories, which were brutally seized by the Soviets at World War II.
