Israel Targeted By Dozens Of Rockets From Gaza, Lebanon During Passover
As the Jewish celebration of Passover began on Wednesday evening, militants from Lebanon and the Gaza Strip launched dozens of rockets into Israel. The Israeli military reported that militants in Lebanon fired 34 rockets over the northern border, out of which 25 were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system. The rest are still under investigation, while five rockets struck Israeli territory. At the same time, terrorists in Gaza launched seven rockets towards the south, all of which exploded mid-air.
The perpetrators of the rocket attacks are yet to claim responsibility. Nevertheless, the tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based terrorist group, have been on the rise in recent weeks due to the former’s reaction to a police raid on Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque on Wednesday.
Israeli security forces made two raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque, arresting hundreds of Palestinian demonstrators who had barricaded themselves inside overnight. The group resorted to throwing stones and firing fireworks at the police, which led to the intervention of the officers. Hezbollah has condemned Israel for the police raid and called it a flagrant violation of religious and moral values.
The US State Department reiterated that Israel has the right to defend itself, condemning the rocket attacks from Lebanon and Gaza. Israel has blamed Hamas for the rocket attacks from Lebanon, which also has its operations in the Gaza Strip. The country has responded to the attacks by striking several Hamas targets in Gaza.
