Burchett praises Biden’s brave trip to Israel but expresses concern for his safety.
Rep. Tim Burchett Commends President Biden’s “Gutsy” Trip to Israel Amid Conflict with Hamas
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) praised President Joe Biden’s recent visit to Israel during the ongoing conflict with Hamas, calling it a ”gutsy, bold move.” However, he expressed concerns for the president’s safety.
During an interview on NewsNation’s Cuomo, Burchett drew a comparison between Hamas terrorists and the Japanese military in World War II. He emphasized the danger posed by enemies who are willing to sacrifice their own lives to harm others.
“I wish the president wasn’t going over there. I think it’s a gutsy, bold move, but I really wish he wasn’t going over there. Because, you know, my dad, my dad fought the Japanese in the Pacific, and he used to say, buddy, when somebody’s willing to lose their life to take you out, there’s not a whole lot you can do sometimes,” Burchett said.
Biden’s visit to Israel is scheduled for Wednesday, following Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s recent trip to show support for the Jewish state.
Burchett also criticized a proposal by progressive House Democrats to call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, describing it as a favorable deal for the terrorist group.
“You got to remember Hamas, first off … where they came over was the gate that’s used primarily for medical aid and food,” Burchett explained. “Hamas just goes in there and slaughters innocent people. Israel, the Jews, they call over there, and they say, ’Hey, we’re coming through here. Y’all get the hell out of there.’ And then what does Hamas do? They stop them at the border with AKs, and they start shooting their own people,” Burchett said.
Burchett strongly condemned Hamas, labeling them as vicious, savage terrorists. He acknowledged the unfortunate reality that innocent lives may be lost in the conflict but emphasized that Israel cannot continue to appease Hamas.
The recent attacks by Hamas prompted Israel to declare war, marking the first time since 1973. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 4,000 people in Israel and Gaza, including 30 Americans, according to the State Department.
