Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz has resigned

Israeli official Benny Gantz has resigned⁢ from his position as a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s⁤ government. This comes one day after Israel successfully rescued four hostages⁣ from Hamas in Gaza. Gantz’s resignation ⁣means that Netanyahu may have to rely on the ⁤support ⁢of right-wing politicians in his government. Gantz had previously threatened to resign ⁤if Netanyahu did not ⁤come⁤ up with ‍a plan for Gaza after‍ the recent conflict. The announcement was delayed one day due to ⁣the ⁣successful hostage rescue ⁢mission.

Centrist Israeli official Benny Gantz announced his resignation, one day after Israel rescued four hostages held by Hamas during an operation in Gaza.

Gantz is a former military leader who joined the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks as a show of unity. Netanyahu can remain in power without Gantz but will be more reliant on figures from the country’s political right, the Associated Press reported.

The move was not entirely unexpected, as Gantz had previously threatened to leave the government by June 8 if Netanyahu did not create a new plan for what Gaza would look like following the war.
