Megyn Kelly and Celebs React to Harry & Meghan’s Car Chase Story: ‘Not Possible’
Megyn Kelly and Caitlyn Jenner React to Reports of Paparazzi Car Chase Involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
On Wednesday, reports surfaced that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and her mother Doria Ragland were involved in a “near catastrophic car chase” with paparazzi while in New York City. Megyn Kelly and Caitlyn Jenner took to Twitter to express their skepticism about the reports.
Megyn Kelly’s Tweet
Kelly, who has nearly 3 million followers, tweeted that the “car chase” reports involving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not possible. She wrote, “I lived in Manhattan for 17 yrs [and] it is not possible to have a 2 [hour] ‘car chase’ there. Too many street lights/stop signs, too much foot/car traffic & hundreds of places you could safely pull over to protect yourself.”
She added in a second tweet, “Also if they really want to avoid the paparazzi perhaps the Duchess should stop using them so obviously when she wants to see herself in the paper. The relationship can get complicated.”
Caitlyn Jenner’s Tweet
Reality star Caitlyn Jenner seemed to agree with Kelly and tweeted, “I have been party to [paparazzi] following me in NY (definitely not 2 hrs and plenty of evidence – kind of the point since they have cameras), [Los Angeles] (even in a city with lots of driving and long distances between destinations, not 2 hours, and AGAIN LOTS OF EVIDENCE) it comes with the territory. Whine whine whine is all these 2 seem to do.”
Other Reactions
GB News host Dan Wooton tweeted, “‘Near catastrophic’ The credibility of Prince Harry and Meghan is yet again destroyed. When will the media start realizing every statement they make must be fact checked?”
Fox News’ Dagen McDowell wrote, “I have many questions: ‘near-fatal’ and ‘near-catastrophic’ for whom? Innocent pedestrians? Bystanders? Bicyclists? Other motorists?”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said that, “I don’t think there’s many of us who don’t recall how his [Harry’s] mum died. I thought that was a bit reckless and irresponsible.”
Others called out the paparazzi following reports of the alleged car chase.
One person tweeted, “Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Doria were chased by paparazzi for 2 hours. The paparazzi were chasing after them in cars, motorcycles, scooters on the streets and on the sidewalks endangering lives of many. They had to switch to a taxi to get away from these psychopaths.”
Another added, “In an incident all too familiar with the Princess Diana crash in 1997, seeing the paparazzi chase down Meghan Markle and Prince Harry is concerning.”
New York Police Department’s Response
The New York Police Department Deputy Commissioner Public Information Officer Julian Phillips responded on Wednesday to reports about the “near catastrophic car chase.” The statement read, “On Tuesday evening, May 16, the NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”
The statement comes following an earlier report that the trio were involved in a “car chase” in NYC, per a spokesperson for the prince. It reportedly happened following an event in the city where Markle was honored with a “Woman of Vision” award.
“Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms. Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” a rep for the Sussex’s told Deadline. “This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers,” the statement added. “While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety,” the statement concluded.
