Gas stove ban is now official.
Controversy Over Gas Stove Ban Proposal
False Claims and Rising Concerns
In January, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commissioner Richard Trumka proposed a national ban on gas stoves, claiming they were a “dangerous hazard” that cause “indoor pollution.” However, this proposal caused an uproar across the country, with many people rightly questioning the validity of these claims.
According to Bloomberg, “a federal agency says a ban on gas stoves is on the table amid rising concern about harmful indoor air pollutants emitted by the appliances.” The US Consumer Product Safety Commission plans to take action to address the pollution, which can cause health and respiratory problems.
Backtracking and Future Regulation
After the proposal caused controversy, Trumka backtracked, stating that the idea was never serious and that they were not looking to take away items that were already in people’s homes. However, he left the door open for future regulation on new products.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm also claimed that the controversy was overblown and that the government wasn’t banning all gas stoves.
New York Gas Hookup Ban
Despite these claims, in New York, all gas hookups on new buildings are now banned, including hookups for gas furnaces and gas stoves. This forced transition to electric-powered heat and cooking will hurt the poor and middle class with exponential energy cost increases.
Conservative Warnings
Conservatives who warned about the coming ban were called conspiracy theorists, but now it seems their concerns were valid. The ban on gas stoves and hookups will have a significant impact on many people’s lives and their ability to afford basic necessities.
