The ⁣Jacksonville ⁣Sheriff’s Office Identifies Suspect in ⁢Racially Motivated Mass Shooting

The Jacksonville⁤ Sheriff’s Office ⁣has identified the⁢ suspect in⁤ Saturday’s racially motivated mass shooting as‌ 21-year-old Ryan Palmeter.

Palmeter, a white‍ man, shot and killed three⁣ black people inside a⁤ Dollar ⁤General store⁣ in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday before fatally shooting himself. He reportedly used a ‍Glock handgun ⁢and an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle, onto which‌ he had⁤ painted a swastika. He was also wearing a ‍bullet-resistant vest.

The sheriff’s office confirmed⁢ Palmeter’s identity in a post ⁤on X, the social​ media​ platform formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.

“He hated black people,” Sheriff ⁣T.K. Waters said of the suspect, later identified as Palmeter, at​ a press briefing late Saturday ​evening.

Investigators said the shooter sent writings⁤ to federal law enforcement and at least one media​ outlet before the attack outlining his motives.

“There is absolutely no ‌evidence​ the shooter is part ⁢of any larger group,” Waters⁣ added.
