When Sen. Jacky Rosen (D., Nev.) visited Our Center Reno last month, she expressed gratitude towards its ⁣staff and praised the invaluable “local resources” the ‌organization offers to children in the area. These resources include ⁢a diverse range ⁣of programs such ⁢as the “Queer Pagan Exploration” club, a “transdiscovery” group for 11-year-olds, and a sex education curriculum that sparked controversy and was⁤ banned by a⁤ nonpartisan Nevada ‍school⁤ board over four years ago.

Our Center Reno ‌proudly⁤ identifies itself⁣ as an “LGBTQIA+ community center” and serves as a meeting place ⁣for various far-left⁢ organizations,⁢ including the Northern Nevada Democratic Socialists of America. The‌ center hosts regular events like “drag story ⁢hour,” provides “free gender-affirming haircuts” for transgender children, and offers “free legal advice” for individuals interested in‍ transgender surgery.

What‌ sets Our Center Reno apart are its unconventional programs, such as the monthly “Queer Pagan⁤ Exploration” classes that⁣ delve into topics like witchcraft and pentagrams. Additionally, the organization conducts “summer intensive” study groups focused on ‌the ⁣controversial Scarleteen Queer Sex Education curriculum, which not only teaches children about sexual health but also encourages them⁣ to explore their own ‍bodies.

Rosen’s visit to Our Center Reno on July 8 ⁤aligned with her commitment to defending “LGBTQ+ rights” during a time when they are under attack, as she mentioned on ⁣ Twitter. This‌ visit was part of her series of meetings with constituents in Reno, including a roundtable discussion with female veterans.

Nevada’s upcoming Senate race in 2024 is expected to be highly competitive, as Rosen will be up for reelection. ⁣Republicans have already identified her seat as a target and‍ have recently‍ convinced former ‌Army captain⁢ Sam Brown to challenge her candidacy.

Established in 2009, Our Center Reno faced financial challenges and remained closed from 2016⁢ to 2021. However, it ‌has since emerged⁤ as a ⁣prominent left-wing advocacy group in Northern Nevada. One of the center’s most controversial‍ aspects is its endorsement of the ‍Scarleteen program, which was removed from the ‌Washoe County Board of ⁣Education’s approved education resources list in ⁣2019.

During the public comment period on the proposed sex education curriculum, concerned parents expressed their reservations about Scarleteen’s lessons on⁣ gender identity and other sensitive topics. The ⁤school board ultimately voted 5-2 to eliminate any references to Scarleteen from the curriculum.

Scarleteen describes itself as a “progressive, independent sexuality and relationships ⁣education media and support organization” ⁤that provides ⁢in-person outreach⁢ to teenagers. However, a closer examination of Scarleteen’s educational materials reveals why even a school board in⁢ solidly blue Washoe County had concerns.

Scarleteen offers literature such as a guide titled “How Do You Masturbate?” that recommends “pre-orgasmic people” and “younger” individuals engage in “a daily masturbation session, over at least several weeks.” Another guide called “The Transmasculine Flow” suggests elective hysterectomies as a solution for those seeking to “affirm their gender.”

Scarleteen also⁢ operates an internet message‍ board where children as young as 13 can ask questions about sex, which are often answered by adults. In one instance, a 14-year-old inquired about a “diaper” and feces “fetish,” to which⁢ a Scarleteen staff member named “Sam” responded with a guide called the “Sex Readiness Checklist.”

Heather Corinna, the owner of Scarleteen, also writes an advice column for children and young adults. In a 2008 post, updated in⁢ 2023, she addressed⁣ the question of whether a⁤ 23-year-old man attracted‍ to teenagers is “a pedophile.” Corinna’s extensive response included statements such as “in both humans and the rest of⁢ the⁤ animal kingdom, it’s not ⁣unusual for a ⁢person to be attracted to someone who has the physically markers of⁣ adulthood and⁢ fertility” and emphasized the ‍possibility of “rich sexual and⁣ interpersonal relationships” with individuals of any age.

In July, Scarleteen partnered with Lucky Bloke, a sex shop, allowing Scarleteen to receive 40 percent of revenue from purchases made on its website. The⁢ partnership offers items like condoms and lubricants that‌ are discreetly shipped⁣ in packaging that does not reveal their contents.

Rosen did not provide‌ a comment when requested.
