The epoch times

Jacob Siegel discusses disinformation and refers to it as the ‘Hoax of the Century’ in Part 1.

The hoax of the century is that there exists ⁢a great threat of disinformation that is‍ “so grave⁤ that it justifies a state of emergency in which unelected⁤ regulators and national security officials can violate the Constitution to protect individual American citizens,” according to a magazine editor.

The world is being deceived by a‍ massive hoax, ⁤perpetuated by those who claim⁤ that disinformation poses‍ an imminent danger. They⁢ argue that this threat is so severe that it⁤ warrants suspending constitutional rights and granting unelected ‌officials the power to protect the American people. But is this threat even real? ‍Jacob Siegel, a senior editor at Tablet magazine, has published a groundbreaking guide that exposes the⁤ truth behind this deception.

In‌ an interview with EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders,” Mr. ‍Siegel boldly declares, “It’s a hoax because⁢ this threat, quite simply, doesn’t exist.”

According to Mr. Siegel, this so-called⁤ disinformation‌ threat⁣ is nothing more than a fabrication. It is a tool used by a censorship bureaucratic apparatus to suppress dissent and undermine⁤ the‌ constitutional rights of Americans.

In his eye-opening guide, Mr. Siegel writes, “Disinformation‌ is⁣ both the name of ⁤the crime and the‍ means of covering it up; ⁢a weapon‍ that ⁤doubles as a disguise.”

During the EpochTV interview, Mr.‍ Siegel‍ exposes the⁣ truth behind⁢ the disinformation narrative. He reveals, “The supposed threat of disinformation… ‌rapidly evolved into [an] all-encompassing threat where supposed COVID misinformation was now ‌part of the same category that ‍once included deliberate, state-backed deceptions by the ‍Russian government.”

Military ‍Origins

Mr. Siegel uncovers the origins of disinformation, tracing it back ‍to ⁣military warfare.⁢ Its purpose is ‌to sow confusion among the target ⁤population, ⁢as he explains.

In America, the fear of disinformation began with exaggerated claims of Russian interference in ‍the 2016 election, which have since been discredited.‌ However, ‌this narrative ‌has evolved to include disinformation surrounding ⁤COVID-19, vaccinations, and ‍other issues.

Mr. Siegel points⁤ out the ⁣dangerous implications of this narrative, stating, “It is ‌a powerful tool⁤ to make ‍that claim, because it means that you can ⁣employ the weapons‍ of warfare ⁤to your domestic political opponents.”

He further exposes the individuals behind this narrative, such as Clint Watts, ‍the lead figure behind the online dashboard ⁣Hamilton‍ 68. Mr. Siegel reveals that Mr. Watts falsely claimed that ⁤Russian propaganda and domestic political speech were indistinguishable during‍ the 2016 election.

According to Mr. Siegel, the official document ‌that ⁢propagated the idea of Russia collusion in the 2016 ⁣election was a biased ⁣intelligence community assessment, handpicked by former CIA Director John Brennan. This document, ‍declassified by⁤ President Obama, shaped the political discourse ⁤in America for the next four years.

Mr. Siegel ⁤asserts, “We now of course know that all of these claims about Russia’s interference ‌in the ⁢2016 election were either ⁢invented whole-cloth or ⁣were so wildly exaggerated as to essentially be inventions.”

This ⁢false narrative then became the justification‌ for⁤ government ⁤agencies to police speech⁤ in ‌America.

For instance, in a 2021 ⁣document from the ⁢Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, director Jen ⁣Easterly stated, “one could argue that⁢ we’re in the business of critical infrastructure, and the most critical infrastructure is our cognitive infrastructure, so building that resilience⁣ to misinformation and disinformation, I⁤ think, is incredibly important.”

Monitoring Internet Use

Mr. Siegel reveals that public and private internet use is ‌closely monitored,‍ with even keystrokes being collected in a database. This data is then analyzed by algorithms, posing a ⁣threat ⁤to privacy and freedom of thought.

The ‌government now claims the authority to police‍ anything that‌ goes through people’s minds for the sake of public safety and ‌national security.

Reflecting on his own⁤ experiences as an ‍intelligence officer in ⁤Afghanistan, Mr. Siegel questions the motives behind the massive collection of data by⁣ the ‍U.S. Army. He‌ also highlights ‌his observations of the media’s role in perpetuating the⁢ Trump-Russia collusion claims.

Mr. Siegel concludes that⁣ a coalition of forces opposing President Trump emerged, driven by‍ shared interests and a common‍ enemy. This coalition, consisting of⁤ government agencies, news media, universities, ‍and nonprofits, worked together to ⁤shape the narrative and suppress dissent.

He warns, “Rather than nationalizing physical production, what’s‌ being nationalized is social media, opinion production, perception⁣ production.”

How has the media contributed to the public’s obsession over disinformation?

Narrative that has led to the current obsession ‍over disinformation.

Mr. Siegel further asserts that the media plays⁢ a‍ significant role in perpetuating this hoax. They amplify and sensationalize stories about disinformation, thereby creating fear and panic among the public. This fear is then used as justification⁣ for ⁤increased⁤ censorship and government control.

The implications of this hoax ⁢are far-reaching. It erodes‍ trust‍ in institutions⁣ and undermines the ‍fundamental rights and freedoms⁣ that are enshrined in the Constitution. As Mr. Siegel aptly puts it, ‌”The hoax of disinformation
