Jake Owen supports Jason Aldean amidst rock star’s disrespectful comment about ‘Try That in a Small Town’.
Musician Feud: Jason Isbell and Jake Owen Clash Over Controversial Song
When musicians engage in a feud, it’s usually about copyright or ownership rights. However, this particular fight is different. It involves two musicians arguing over a song that neither of them owns.
Guitarist Jason Isbell and country singer Jake Owen found themselves in a heated exchange over Jason Aldean’s polarizing song, “Try That in a Small Town.”
The song has been at the center of controversy due to allegations of racial undertones, leading Country Music Television to remove it from their lineup.
Isbell took to Twitter to call out Aldean, challenging him to write his next single himself. Isbell seemed to take issue with Aldean’s alleged use of a songwriter.
Dare Aldean to write his next single himself. That’s what we try in my small town

Isbell didn’t stop there. He doubled down, challenging Aldean to create art on his own and write a song without any assistance.
Owen, however, wasn’t impressed with Isbell’s tweets and decided to weigh in.
WARNING: The following video contains vulgar language that some viewers may find offensive.
Jason, you’re always the first to get behind your keyboard and spout off with this stupid shit. In “my small town” you just walk up to the guy and be a man to his face if you want the smoke… not tweet it at him…. Tough guy. https://t.co/Sm7jbD9HX3

“Jason, you’re always the first to get behind your keyboard and spout off with this stupid s**t,” Owen fired back. “In ‘my small town,’ you just walk up to the guy and be a man to his face if you want the smoke… not tweet it at him… Tough guy.”
Isbell didn’t back down and interpreted Owen’s response as implying that if you can’t physically overpower someone, you shouldn’t voice your opinion.
What really gets me about this is that it’s saying “if you don’t believe you can physically overpower me, you aren’t allowed to publicly disagree with me.” What does that say to the people in your life who aren’t big strong boys? They just have to shut up? https://t.co/MRL8trpgBl

Owen felt the need to clarify his stance and tweeted that he took issue with Isbell insinuating that being an artist only counts if you write your own music.
“I’ve written a lot of songs and recorded many of them,” Owen added. “I’m just a fan of songs. I don’t need to write everything to prove that I’m a ‘real artist’.”
The country star considered Isbell’s comment a low blow, prompting him to join the conversation.
4/4
I bet @JasonIsbell is grateful @MorganWallen recorded his song “Cover Me Up”…
I am a @JasonIsbell music fan. Always have been. I understand his takes on things can be polarizing. I chime in when I feel like there’s a low blow being thrown. The “write your own songs”…

Owen concluded by acknowledging that he should have clarified his position from the beginning but let his emotions get the best of him. He understood that not everyone would agree with him, but he wanted to provide clarity.
