Jamaal Bowman responds to report on his previous 9/11 conspiracy posts

Rep. Jamaal Bowman Promoted 9/11 Conspiracy Theories, Says The Daily⁣ Beast

Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) has come under fire ⁣after The Daily Beast revealed that he had promoted ⁣conspiratorial theories ⁤regarding 9/11 ⁢on his blog during his time as a high school principal.

Back⁤ in 2011, when Bowman served as principal at the Cornerstone Academy for Social Action, he expressed his belief in a controlled⁣ demolition causing the collapse of Building 7 on ⁤9/11. ‍He referenced ⁢films like “Loose Change” and “Zeitgeist,”⁣ which claimed that the U.S. ⁤orchestrated⁣ the 9/11 attacks and that⁣ globalist bankers controlled‌ the Federal Reserve, manipulating national ‌tragedies ⁤to push the U.S. into wars and debt.

In ⁢response to The Daily Beast’s report, Bowman stated, “Well over a decade ago, as I was debating diving into a doctoral degree, I explored a wide range of books, films, and articles across a wide swath‌ of the political spectrum and processed my thoughts ⁢in a personal blog that few people ‌ever⁣ read.”

He continued, “I don’t⁢ believe ⁢anything that⁤ these cranks ⁣have ‌said, and my life’s work has‍ proven that.⁤ As a Congressman, I’ve written a Congressional ‌Resolution condemning a dangerous conspiracy theory, I’ve stood up to MAGA extremists, and I’ve called out the endless bull**** of the far-right.”

Bowman acknowledged that he has since learned about⁣ the spread of misinformation and ‍expressed regret for posting about these conspiracy ‍theories. ‍He assured that anyone who looks at his work today ⁤knows where he stands.

A ‍Congressional⁢ Ethics Report on the‍ Fire Alarm ‌Incident

A congressional ethics report regarding ‌the fire⁢ alarm incident‍ stated:

Following mounting criticism and calls for the Department of Justice ⁣to investigate Rep. Bowman for his actions in ⁤triggering a false alarm of fire in the Cannon House Building earlier in the‍ day, Rep. Bowman sought to “personally clear ⁤up ‍confusion” and extinguish ‍the controversy. To this end, Rep. Bowman ⁤released an official ‌statement where ‌he claimed that he “mistakenly”⁤ activated ⁣the fire alarm “thinking it would open the door.

However, [Office of Congressional Ethics] staff obtained evidence appearing to contradict Rep. Bowman’s claim that he mistakenly activated the fire alarm.

Surveillance video obtained by the OCE shows Rep. Bowman deliberately pulling the fire alarm lever without ever looking back to⁤ determine whether the alarm facilitated the opening of the emergency doors.

‍How do conspiracy theories surrounding ⁣national tragedies like the 9/11 attacks undermine public trust ‍in institutions and elected representatives?

Ressional⁤ agenda focused on issues ‌like education, healthcare, and criminal justice reform.⁤ These conspiracy theories ⁣do not reflect my beliefs or values, and I⁢ apologize for any confusion or concern they may have caused.”

The⁢ promotion of conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 attacks is a serious matter.⁢ It undermines the truth and‌ perpetuates misinformation that can be harmful to the victims and their families.⁤ It also erodes public trust in our institutions and elected representatives.

As elected officials, it is essential that we maintain ⁣the highest standards of integrity and hold ourselves accountable for our words and actions.⁤ If we want to build a society based on trust, transparency, and truth, we must reject‌ conspiracy ‍theories and baseless claims⁣ that are not supported by evidence.

It is important to note that⁤ individuals have the right to engage in critical thinking and question the official narrative.⁣ However, this should be done responsibly,⁢ with a respect for facts, evidence, and the expertise of professionals who have dedicated their ⁣lives⁣ to understanding complex issues.

Promoting conspiracy theories, ‍especially those that ⁤target national tragedies like the 9/11 attacks, is not only intellectually irresponsible ‌but also disrespectful to the⁢ victims and their families.⁤ It minimizes⁢ their pain and suffering by reducing their experiences to mere pawns in⁣ a grand conspiracy.

As citizens,⁢ we⁢ must demand better from our elected officials. We have the right to⁢ expect honesty, integrity,⁢ and a commitment to the truth.⁢ It is⁤ essential ‍that we hold our representatives accountable for their words and actions.⁡ Those who promote baseless conspiracy theories should be called out and ‍held responsible for the harm they cause to public discourse and public trust.

In the case of Rep. Jamaal Bowman, it is encouraging ⁤to see that he has distanced himself from the conspiracy theories he once promoted.⁡ However, it is a reminder that our elected officials must be vigilant in their⁤ pursuit of⁣ truth and ⁢fact-based decision-making. We‌ cannot afford to⁤ have leaders ‌who endorse or propagate ‌falsehoods that undermine our democracy and the principles it is founded upon.

Moving forward, it is ⁢our collective responsibility to⁣ demand transparency, accountability, and truth from our⁢ elected representatives.⁤ We must hold them to the highest standards and ensure that they promote evidence-based policies that serve the best interests of the American people.

As we reflect‍ on the tragic events of September 11, 2001, we must honor the memory of ‌the victims by seeking the truth, promoting unity, and rejecting baseless conspiracy theories that only serve ⁣to divide us.⁢ ‍Together, we can ensure that their legacy is one of resilience, unity, ⁣and a commitment to ⁤the values that define our nation.
