Jason Momoa Doubles Down on “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” Pushing a Climate Change Narrative
Jason Momoa (actor), who in 2020 infamously supported violent crime, and the destruction public property, doubled the emphasis on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Being about pushing a climate-change narrative.
Variety interviewed Momoa to promote Deep Rising, the documentary for which he is the narration.
“I’ll always be Aquaman.” Jason Momoa shares his story about meeting James Gunn, Peter Safran and other people. “We’ve got a lot of good things coming.” https://t.co/m6i0OuZtEC pic.twitter.com/jDFss3gojB

He told the outlet, “We’ll have Aquaman, which is funny. The beautiful thing is that me and my partner wrote the first treatment for it, about a 55-page treatment, and a lot of it has to deal with me talking to the UN expediting what’s going to be happening with the melting ice caps.”
“There’s no far-off galaxy coming to destroy us, there’s no alien from another place, it’s really just the idea of us ruining our planet,” he added. “And the fact that we all need to get it together and save our home.”
Momoa previously indicated the plot of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom would feature a climate change narrative when he spoke to GQ back in August telling the outlet, “I don’t want to give too much away. But we really get to speed up what is going to happen to this earth, and it’s not because of aliens.”

The actor would also state, “Aquaman is the most made-fun-of superhero in the world. But it’s amazing to be able to bring awareness of what is happening to our planet. It’s not some story that’s been told over and over, [it’s a] movie about what’s happening right now but in a fantasy world.
In fact GQ’s Olivia Pym also noted that the film would feature “a scene in which Aquaman’s alter-ego Arthur Curry gives a grand speech to the UN warning them of the disaster looming on the horizon.”
Momoa’s future as Aquaman is uncertain following the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. DC Studios CEO James Gunn didn’t confirm or deny whether he would reprise his role in his new DCU future. He left the door open to Momoa, Zachary Levi, Ezra Miller, and Xolo Maridueña reprising their roles as Aquaman, Shazam, the Flash, and Blue Beetle going forward.
Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter, “There is nothing that prohibits that from happening.”
However, when he announced the new DCU slate, Gunn also made it clear that upcoming The Flash film will end the current DC continuity and begin Gunn and his co-CEO Peter Safran’s new DCU vision. However, he did note that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom takes place after The Flash and “leads directly into our next few projects.”
Gunn said, “First, we have Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Shazam has always been off kind of in his own part of the DCU so he connects very well. That moves directly into The Flash, a fantastic movie that I really love, that resets the entire DCU universe.”
“And then to move into Blue Beetle, a fantastic film about a kid who is a marvelous part of the DCU and then into Aquaman 2, which leads directly into our next few projects,” he added.
Momoa did recently indicate he’s staying on as Aquaman and that he might actually play other characters in the new DCU.
He told Variety, “I’ll always be Aquaman. Ain’t anyone coming in there and taking shit. There might be some other characters, too. I can play other things, too. I can be funny and savage and charming.”
Momoa reiterated these comments to Deadline as well saying, “I love [James] Gunn and so there’s gonna be some really cool things, what they’re doing with DC, and I definitely will be in more than just one.”
“There’s room for me to play a couple different [roles]… I’ve seen other actors do it. Yeah. I want a shot,” he added.
