JD Vance slams Kamala Harris and Tim Walz performances at DNC
In a recent campaign event in Big Rapids, Michigan, Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s performances at the Democratic National Convention. He stated that rally attendees made a wise choice by not watching Harris’s speech and accused Walz of being dishonest about his record. Vance mocked a claim made by Harris that “when we fight, we win,” by contrasting it with Walz’s statement, “and even when we don’t fight.” He further attacked Walz’s military background, suggesting that he misrepresented his service and criticized the governor for allowing unrest in Minneapolis during riots. Vance referred to instances where Walz made inaccurate claims regarding his military rank and the conception of his children, alleging ”stolen valor.” However, some veterans have defended Walz, stating he served honorably and expressing disappointment over Vance’s attacks.

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) attacked Vice President Kamala Harris‘s and Gov. Tim Walz‘s (D-MN) addresses at the Democratic National Convention during a campaign stop Tuesday afternoon in Big Rapids, Michigan, a battleground state that will help decide the presidential election.
After claiming that rally attendees were smart for not watching the vice president’s convention speech, Vance accused Walz of lying about his record.
“Now, Kamala Harris said, ‘When we fight, we win.’ This is one of her favorite taglines,” Vance said. “I don’t know if you saw, but then, Tim Walz stood up and shouted, ‘And even when we don’t fight’, … that’s what Tim Walz said. Now, he lies about everything, of course.”
The Ohio senator then rejected Walz’s repeated claims that the GOP is “weird” before delving into Walz’s background as a veteran and his story about how his children were conceived.
“He calls me weird, but then he lies about how his kids were conceived. Who does that?” Vance asked. “That’s just the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. He said he served in combat, but the closest Tim Walz ever came to combat is when he let rioters burn Minneapolis to the ground and did absolutely nothing to stop it.”
Walz has faced attacks on his inaccurate claims that he retired as a command sergeant major. The governor did not complete the necessary requirements to retire as a command sergeant major and was reverted to master sergeant upon his departure. Walz also faced criticism for claiming that his children were conceived through in vitro fertilization when his children were conceived through intrauterine insemination, also known as IUI, which does not involve using embryos.
Vance has seized upon the governor’s lax comments on his military background, accusing him of “stolen valor” after Walz spent 24 years in the Army National Guard before his 2005 retirement ahead of his unit deploying to Iraq.
“And I know we have got a lot of veterans out there. I served in the United States Marine Corps, and I did go to Iraq when my country asked me, and I’m proud of it,” Vance said on Tuesday as the crowd clapped. “And I know a lot of veterans who take offense.”
But veterans at the convention in Chicago last week told the Washington Examiner they were not offended by Walz’s comments.
“He went wherever our nation sent him. He did support our operation, enduring freedom. I am disappointed that J.D. Vance would come after Gov. Walz like he did. I do not feel that he should have,” retired Marine Sgt. Maj. John Estrada said.
Retired National Guard Maj. Gen. Randy Manner, who oversaw overseas deployments for the National Guard, called the attack against Walz just “political crap” with “no facts behind it.”
Vance continued attacking the Democratic ticket’s speeches at the convention and chastised Harris over her attacks against former President Donald Trump.
“She said there are going to be extremely serious consequences for voting for Donald Trump,” Vance said. “Now, Kamala, I’ve got two responses to that. First of all, that is not a very presidential thing to say. Is she the vice president or the vice principal warning about very serious consequences, whining at people for telling a joke instead of trying to persuade them that she deserves to be their president? I’m sick of people like that.”
“But second, it’s the substance. Because the extremely serious consequences, Kamala, have come from your leadership as vice president of the United States,” Vance said before blaming Harris for high grocery prices and housing problems young people face.
