Jewish teacher hides from rioting students in locked office
A Queens High School Teacher Forced to Hide from ‘Radicalized’ Students
Last week, a Queens high school in New York City became the scene of a violent and anti-Semitic outburst. The target of this rage was a longtime teacher who had publicly shown support for Israel on Facebook.
Hillcrest High School in the Jamaica neighborhood was thrown into chaos on Monday morning when a mob of teens rampaged through the halls, as reported by the New York Post. The Post described the teens involved as “radicalized.”
According to the Post, hundreds of teens waved Palestinian flags as they ran wild through the school. The targeted teacher was forced to flee her classroom, seeking refuge in a locked office while students attempted to break through.
Even in the safety of the locked office, the students persisted in their pursuit of the teacher.
“The teacher was seen holding a sign supporting Israel,” revealed a high school senior to the Post.

According to the Post, a group of students created a chat to expose the teacher and discuss starting a riot. The protesting students chanted “Free Palestine!” and demanded the teacher’s termination.
City Council member James Gennaro stated that the New York Police Department and the counterterrorism bureau were called in to investigate the incident. Gennaro expressed his concern over the escalation of events, saying, “It went from a teacher just changing a photograph on her social profile to this contagion of hate being released in the halls of Hillcrest High School.”
Mayor Eric Adams condemned the incident, emphasizing that such acts of antisemitism would not be tolerated in the city.
The vile show of antisemitism at Hillcrest High School was motivated by ignorance-fueled hatred, plain and simple, and it will not be tolerated in any of our schools, let alone anywhere else in our city.

We will not tolerate acts of hate in our city. The attack on this teacher is despicable and goes against everything we stand for. We must come together to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students and teachers. #NoHate #NoAntisemitism

The incident at Hillcrest High School highlights the presence of radicalized students within the education system and the urgent need for action. It is deeply concerning that a teacher was forced to hide in fear for her safety simply because she expressed her support for Israel on social media.
Education is a place for diversity of thought and respectful dialogue. It should be a safe space where students and teachers can freely express their opinions without fear of retribution or harm. The fact that a group of students felt empowered to orchestrate a riot and demand the termination of a teacher based on her political beliefs is a troubling indication of the state of our society.
Antisemitism and hatred have no place in our schools or communities. It is our responsibility as a society to condemn and combat such acts of hate. The incident at Hillcrest High School serves as a wake-up call to address the deeper issues underlying this event.
Schools must prioritize fostering a culture of tolerance, acceptance, and mutual respect among students. Educators should be equipped with the tools and resources to promote understanding and empathy, even when discussing sensitive topics. Lessons on diversity, inclusion, and the dangers of radicalization should be incorporated into the curriculum to help students develop a deeper understanding of the consequences of their actions and words.
In addition to educating students, it is crucial for schools to take swift and decisive action when incidents of hate occur. The involvement of the police and counterterrorism bureau in the Hillcrest High School incident demonstrates the severity of the situation and the need for a comprehensive response.
Law enforcement agencies and school administrators must work together to identify and address the root causes of radicalization within schools. This includes implementing preventive measures such as monitoring online activities, providing counseling and support services to at-risk students, and promoting open lines of communication between students, teachers, and administrators.
As a society, we cannot afford to ignore the rise of radicalization and hatred among our youth. It is our collective responsibility to create safe and inclusive learning environments where all students can flourish and where incidents like the one at Hillcrest High School become a thing of the past.
We must stand together against hate, intolerance, and discrimination, and ensure that our schools remain spaces of enlightenment, understanding, and respect.
