The Bidens have been actively engaging with the drag community and the progressive “woke” movement that aligns with it. In 2022, they extended an invitation to Marti Gould Cummings, a nonbinary drag performer known for their vocal criticisms of law enforcement, to attend the signing ceremony of the Respect for Marriage Act at the White House.
Because what better way to demonstrate “Respect for Marriage” than by embracing a proud, gender-fluid drag artist who advocates for defunding the police, as Cummings describes themselves.
However, disturbing photographs and tweets from Cummings soon emerged, featuring unsettling statements about children.
WARNING: The following links contain vulgar language and images some may find offensive.
In one tweet, the drag queen boldly declared, “The kids are out to sing and suck d!”
Another tweet proclaimed, ”Anyone who thinks drag isn’t for children is wrong.”
The caption accompanying the picture of Jill Biden with the five drag queens speaks volumes.
“Unapologetically queer” and “unapologetically political.”
These two movements are intertwined, united in their pursuit of acceptance, recognition, and validation.
It’s not enough for the drag community to simply exist and coexist with the rest of the country. It strives to be political, seeking not just legality and tolerance, but official endorsement and honor.
Like capturing a moment with the first lady of the United States.
Or receiving an invitation to the White House in the name of “respecting marriage.”
After all, if it’s government-sanctioned, it must be morally right, correct?
