Jim Jordan reveals IRS agent’s malicious tactics against US taxpayer.
Republican Rep. Jim Jordan Investigates Allegations of IRS Abusing Civil Liberties
Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, is currently investigating a concerning allegation involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In a letter he sent to the IRS, Jordan describes the tactics used by one agent as “bizarre” and raises serious concerns about the potential abuse of civil liberties.
Allegation of Deceptive Tactics
The incident in question took place on April 25 in Marion, Ohio. According to the letter, an IRS agent, using the name Bill Haus, visited an Ohio taxpayer’s home under false pretenses. The agent claimed to be there to discuss issues related to an estate for which the taxpayer was the fiduciary. However, it was later revealed that the true purpose of the visit was to address delinquent tax filings.
The homeowner, suspicious of the agent’s intentions, contacted her attorney who instructed the agent to leave. In a disturbing turn of events, the agent responded aggressively, asserting his authority as an IRS agent and claiming he had the right to enter anyone’s house at any time. The agent even threatened to freeze the homeowner’s assets and put a lien on her house if she did not comply with his demands.
After the incident was reported to the police, it was discovered that the agent had used a fake name. The police intervened, warning the agent not to visit the homeowner again. In response, the agent filed a complaint against the police.
Following contradictory information from the IRS regarding the alleged debt, the woman was eventually informed that she owed nothing, and her case was closed on May 30.
Concerns and Demands
Rep. Jim Jordan expressed deep concern over the behavior of the IRS agent towards an American taxpayer. The use of an alias, deceptive tactics to gain entry into the taxpayer’s home, and the filing of a complaint against a police officer investigating the matter are all highly troubling.
Jordan demanded that all documents and communication related to the visit and the complaint against the police be provided.
This is not the first time Rep. Jordan has raised concerns about the IRS’s actions. In a separate incident, he called out the agency for investigating the tax return of journalist Matt Taibbi shortly after Taibbi published an exposé on government efforts to censor social media comments.
Rep. Jordan’s commitment to holding the IRS accountable and protecting the civil liberties of American taxpayers remains steadfast.
