Jim Jordan urges Alphabet to comply with subpoenas regarding censorship collusion suspicions.
House Judiciary Committee Demands Google to Comply with Subpoena
Alphabet Accused of Withholding Information
The House Judiciary Committee, led by Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), has accused Alphabet, the parent company of Google and YouTube, of not fully complying with a subpoena issued in mid-February. The committee is investigating whether tech companies colluded with the Biden administration to censor and block the release of information protected under the Constitution.
Jordan has set a deadline of May 22 for Alphabet to produce all the information demanded in the subpoena. Failure to comply could result in a contempt of Congress charge.
- Alphabet has produced only 4,049 pages of material in response to the subpoena.
- The company has redacted key information necessary to understand the context and content of the material.
- Republicans allege that tech companies helped in blocking data and findings related to the origin of COVID-19 and ties that then Vice President Biden may have had to shady business dealings of his son Hunter Biden.
A Google spokesperson stated that the company has been producing relevant documents in response to the committee’s requests since December and will continue to work constructively with them.
