House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has issued a subpoena for FBI Agent Elvis Chan after he backed out of testifying before the committee.
On Friday, Chairman Jordan (R-Ohio) released a subpoena against Agent Chan, accusing the executive branch of colluding with companies to censor speech.
“The Committee on the Judiciary is conducting oversight of how and to what extent the Executive Branch has coerced and colluded with companies and other intermediaries to censor speech,” Jordan wrote. “As the primary liaison between the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF) and social media companies, you are uniquely positioned to aid the Committee’s oversight.”
Jordan alleges that during the COVID-19 outbreak, the federal government worked with social media corporations to censor political opinions that contradicted their own.
The chairman further claims that court proceedings and public reporting have revealed how the government pressured and colluded with Big Tech and other intermediaries to censor certain viewpoints, undermining First Amendment principles.
“It is necessary for Congress to gauge the extent to which FBI agents coerced, pressured, worked with, or relied upon social media and other tech companies to censor speech. The scope of the Committee’s investigation includes understanding the extent and nature of the FBI’s involvement in this censorship,” Jordan wrote.
Chan was originally scheduled to give a transcribed interview on Friday, but it was canceled due to a disagreement between the FBI and the Committee. As a result, the committee issued the subpoena.
The subpoena comes amidst an ongoing court case, Missouri vs Biden, where Republican-led states accuse the federal government of pressuring social media platforms to censor political opinions regarding COVID-19 vaccines and mask requirements, which the Biden Administration considers misinformation.

What are the allegations of collusion between the executive branch and tech companies in suppressing free speech?
Title: House Judiciary Committee Chairman Subpoenas FBI Agent Elvis Chan over Alleged Executive Branch Collusion with Tech Companies
Introduction
In a significant development, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has issued a subpoena for FBI Agent Elvis Chan after the latter backed out of testifying before the committee. This move comes after Chairman Jordan accused the executive branch of colluding with companies to censor speech, further heightening concerns over the extent of government involvement in curtailing First Amendment rights.
Subpoena Against Agent Elvis Chan
On Friday, Chairman Jordan (R-Ohio) released a subpoena against Agent Elvis Chan, citing collusion between the executive branch and companies to suppress free speech. He accused the government of participating in an orchestrated effort to censor political opinions that contradicted their own. As the primary liaison between the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF) and social media companies, Agent Chan is seen as a key figure in aiding the committee’s oversight.
Allegations of Government-Technology Company Collusion
Chairman Jordan alleges that during the COVID-19 outbreak, the federal government actively collaborated with social media corporations to suppress political viewpoints that diverged from the official narrative. The chairman further claims that court proceedings and public reporting have shed light on how the government pressured and colluded with Big Tech and other intermediaries to censor certain viewpoints, thereby undermining the principles enshrined in the First Amendment.
Scope of Congressional Investigation
Chairman Jordan emphasizes the necessity for Congress to ascertain the extent to which FBI agents coerced, pressured, worked with, or relied upon social media and other tech companies to censor speech. The committee’s investigation encompasses understanding the scale and nature of the FBI’s involvement in such censorship practices.
Subpoena Issued Amidst Ongoing Court Case
The decision to issue the subpoena arises during the ongoing court case, “Missouri vs Biden,” wherein Republican-led states assert that the federal government exerted undue influence on social media platforms to suppress political opinions on COVID-19 vaccines and mask requirements.
Conclusion
The subpoena issued by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan against FBI Agent Elvis Chan underscores mounting concerns over the alleged collusion between the executive branch and technology companies in stifling free speech and disseminating preferred narratives. This move aims to shed light on the extent to which government agencies pressure and collaborate with tech companies, impinging upon individuals’ constitutional rights. As the saga unfolds, it remains imperative to ensure a balance between protecting public health and safeguarding democratic principles of free expression.
