Jim Jordan may subpoena White House over school board domestic terrorist letter.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Threatens Subpoena Over White House Communications
The House Judiciary Committee chairman is not backing down in his demand for the White House to turn over internal communications related to the National School Boards Association’s controversial letter from September 2021. The letter compared parents protesting at school board meetings to domestic terrorists and asked the Department of Justice to investigate.
“The Committee has reason to believe that communications between the EOP and the relevant Executive Branch agencies exist and that these records are instrumental in fully understanding the Executive Branch’s actions in this matter,”
– Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)
Rep. Jordan has given the White House until June 20 to provide the requested documents and an opportunity to interview Mary Wall, a senior adviser to the president who was aware of the letter before it was sent. If the deadline is not met, the committee will consider issuing a subpoena.
ESG Emerges as Sleeper Issue in the 2024 Presidential Campaign
The Judiciary Committee had previously subpoenaed the Department of Justice, the FBI, and the Department of Education for records and communications related to the NSBA letter. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland launched an FBI-DOJ task force to investigate threats against school board members in response to the letter, but the FBI has faced scrutiny for investigating incidents involving parents speaking at school board meetings.
Rep. Jordan’s latest demand for White House communications highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding the NSBA letter and its impact on parents’ rights to protest at school board meetings.
- White House chief of staff Jeff Zients
- Department of Justice
- FBI
- Department of Education
These are just a few of the agencies and officials involved in the NSBA letter controversy, and Rep. Jordan is determined to get to the bottom of it.
Will the White House comply with Rep. Jordan’s demand for transparency, or will the Judiciary Committee be forced to issue a subpoena? Only time will tell.
