House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan Releases Government Funding Recommendations to Hold Biden Administration Accountable

In an effort to protect civil liberties and hold the Biden administration accountable, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has released a series of government funding recommendations. These recommendations were outlined in a letter to House Appropriations Chairwoman Kay Granger (R-TX) as spending bills for various government agencies make their way through Congress.

With a slim majority in the House, Republicans must navigate a delicate balance to pass legislation without support from Democrats. Additionally, they face a Democrat-led Senate and President Joe Biden, making it crucial to avert a shutdown before the September 30 deadline.

Reforms to Address Immigration Policies and FBI Funding

Jordan expressed concern over the surge in southern border encounters and the release of migrants into the United States. As a result, the judiciary panel recommends prohibiting taxpayer dollars from being used to implement the Biden administration’s radical immigration policies.

The chairman also took aim at the FBI, calling for appropriations bills to cut funding that is not essential for the agency’s mission. Jordan suggested exploring options to relocate the FBI’s headquarters outside of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and tying funding to specific policy changes that promote accountability and transparency.

Protecting Whistleblowers and Free Speech Online

Jordan’s recommendations include language in the Department of Justice appropriations bill to prohibit retaliation against FBI whistleblowers. He also seeks to protect free speech online by blocking taxpayer funds from being used for censorship and classifying speech as “mis-, dis-, or mal-information.” Additionally, he aims to eliminate taxpayer dollars going to entities engaged in speech suppression, such as the State Department’s Global Engagement Center.

Preserving Second Amendment Rights

The committee is examining the Biden administration’s actions regarding Second Amendment rights at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Jordan recommends prohibiting taxpayer funds from being used to implement ATF regulations concerning pistol braces or “ghost guns.”

Jordan concludes his letter by emphasizing the power of the purse and the importance of ensuring federal agencies work for the people. He states that these proposals are just the beginning and that the committee will continue to conduct oversight to uphold fundamental freedoms and secure American liberties.
