Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz released a graphic video appearing to show the narco slave trade at the U.S.-Mexico border late Monday, and claimed that President Joe Biden is to blame for the “worst plague of slavery” since the Civil War.

Cruz described the migrant children and teens working for gangs and forced into sex slavery to pay the thousands of dollars of debt they owe to the cartels. The video appeared to show graphic images of children’s corpses found lying face down at the shores of the river and the desert.

“The teenage boys work for the gangs in every city in America. And the teenage girls experience much worse than that,” Cruz said. “With far too many of them human-trafficked into sex slavery. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are responsible for the worst plague of slavery in America since the Civil War. This is not compassionate. This is not humane. This is barbaric.”

The number of migrants encountered at the border has spiked since Biden took office in 2021, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data shows. Border officials encountered a record high of over 1.7 million migrants crossing the border in the fiscal year 2021. Border agents encountered 207,416 migrants in the month of June, a significant increase from 189,034 in the same month in 2021. Border crossings decreased from May, however, when 240,991 migrants were encountered, according to the CBP.

Despite more crossings, the Biden administration has reportedly been prosecuting fewer migrants than former President Donald Trump’s administration. Only 2,896 migrants were transferred to the U.S. Marshals custody in the fiscal year 2021, compared to 13,213 in the fiscal year 2020 and 20,604 in the 2019 fiscal year, according to a memo obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Nearly 40.3 million people are in modern slavery as of 2016, with 1 in 4 being children, CBP reported. Women and girls make up 99% of the commercial sex industry.
