Biden: Americans to leave Gaza soon as expected.
President Biden Secures Safe Passage for Americans and Palestinians to Leave Gaza
President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that Americans and wounded Palestinians trapped in Gaza will finally be able to leave the war-torn territory. This comes after weeks of border closures by Israel and Egypt, although Egypt has now reopened the Rafah Crossing.

“Thanks to American leadership, we have secured safe passage for wounded Palestinians and foreign nationals to exit Gaza,” President Biden stated. “Today, we expect American citizens to leave, and more departures will follow in the coming days. We will continue working tirelessly to evacuate Americans from Gaza.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken revealed that the State Department is monitoring 400 American citizens and their families, totaling around 1,000 individuals, who are seeking to leave Gaza.
The first group allowed to cross the border into Egypt consisted of injured Palestinians.
U.S. officials have accused Hamas of obstructing the evacuation efforts. “Hamas is making it difficult for us to get people out,” stated National Security Council coordinator John Kirby. “It’s not Israel, Egypt, or Jordan. The impediment lies with Hamas.”
Blinken echoed these sentiments during a Senate Appropriations Committee meeting, emphasizing that the main obstacle is Hamas.
He also mentioned that approximately 5,000 third-country nationals are seeking to leave Gaza.
On Wednesday, small groups of Italian and French citizens became the first to depart, with four Italians and five French citizens leaving Gaza through the Rafah crossing, according to Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and the French foreign ministry.
