Joe Biden’s State Of The Union Speech Wasn’t A Complete Waste! Here’s Something That 2024 Republicans Can Learn From It
You can skip the sections where President Biden is concerned. LiesYou screamed at me “American Jobs,” And yelled “FOLKS!” Republicans could learn a lot from what he did during Tuesday’s State of the Union speech.
Biden made a reference to the federal debt ceiling about halfway through the ceremony. He then began to accuse Republicans, predictably, of trying to cut entitlement spending. In recent weeks, McCarthy, the House Speaker, had repeatedly stated publicly that neither cuts nor increases would be allowed in negotiations to increase the spending limit.
“Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans, some Republicans, want Medicare and Social Security to sunset,” He said, to catcalls by Republican members. “I’m not saying it’s the majority. Let me give you — anybody who doubts it, contact my office. I’ll give you a copy — I’ll give you a copy of the proposal [by the GOP to cut entitlements].”
Biden repeated the same thing 16 years later, when he addressed the non-compete agreements businesses have to make. “It just changed — well, they just changed it because we exposed it,” He said to hear more hissing by Republicans. “That was part of the deal, guys. Look it up.”
This is the only thing every Republican who intends to run in 2024 for president should do. This is true for all Republicans running for office, or any other Republican, from now on. If confronted with a live-time “fact check” or objection from some obtuse cable news anchor or roving reporter — and they will do it every time, especially on issues where Republicans have an effective message — tell them they’re wrong and that they can look it up or check back for additional info at a more convenient time.
Almost no Republican understands the media, and the 22-year-olds they hire as press assistants don’t either, so here’s a crash course on the topic: When a given Republican has taken up an issue that’s popular with voters, such as, say, banning public schools from withholding health information from a child’s parents, the media will find any and every way to either minimize the issue or to controversialize the Republican who’s benefiting from it. Sometimes, the media can achieve both by confronting the Republican using either fabricated information (at worst), or a contested argument that attempts to discredit the subject.
Instead of seeing the little deceitful imp as it is, Republicans grow frustrated and stutter out defensive replies, evidently having been tricked into thinking they had done something wrong. This is a stupid reaction, and the media will be able to provoke it.
Republicans, take it off. Let’s do as Biden did in his speech. It’s always best to be prepared, but you don’t have to have the facts on every subject
