Joe Concha accuses Bernie Sanders of ‘hypocrisy’ for Coachella lecture
Washington Examiner Senior Writer Joe Concha mocked Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for railing against capitalism at the “elitist” Coachella music festival.
Sanders introduced singer-songwriter Clairo before her set on Sunday. He called on attendees to “stand up to the fossil fuel industry and tell them to stop destroying this planet.”
“You look at the word elitist, probably your average Coachella attendee; that photo is next to it,” Concha said on Fox News’s America Reports. “Bernie Sanders goes there as well, I guess, to appeal to the working man and woman, the same senator who owns three homes and is worth millions of dollars. The hypocrisy is so pure you could crush it up and snort it.”
The general admission ticket to Coachella costs $600 and does not include camping options and food. Pop stars and musicians of all genres come to perform at various outdoor venues. The event has been livestreamed on YouTube since 2011.
Concha went on to point to Sanders’s apparent colleague, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who has appeared at rallies alongside the Independent senator in recent days and also has a propensity for elite treatment.
“We heard [Bernie’s] partner in crime as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just last week flying to a Fight the Oligarchy rally, flew first class,” Conca said. “This is something where the Democratic Party really has some problems right now because [President] Donald Trump has co-opted the very voters that used to reliably vote Democrat.”

Up until Monday, the pair’s “Fighting Oligarchy” tour had mostly visited districts held by Republicans in Congress, such as Arizona, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
While Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t confirmed her intentions, the New York representative is floated as the successor to Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in 2028. Sanders has run for president several times but never won the Democratic Party’s nomination.
