FBI agents apologized to John Durham for Trump investigation, says Durham.

Special Counsel John Durham revealed that FBI agents approached him to apologize for the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, adding a surprising twist to his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.

During his appearance, Durham discussed his report that criticized the FBI’s handling of the probe into alleged links between Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russia. He described his findings as “sobering,” emphasizing the impact they had on him as a seasoned federal prosecutor.

Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) later questioned Durham about the reason behind the sobering nature of his findings. In response, Durham shared his firsthand experiences, stating, “I have had any number of FBI agents who I’ve worked with over the years — some of them are retired, some of them are still in place — who have come to me and apologized for the manner in which that investigation was undertaken.”

Durham expressed his belief that the majority of FBI personnel are “decent human beings” who are committed to upholding the law. However, he raised concerns about certain investigative activities and whether the FBI followed proper procedures and policies.

Durham recently concluded his years-long investigation and released his report, which accused the FBI of “confirmation bias” and rushing into a full-fledged investigation into the Russia matter. The investigation resulted in one guilty plea from former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, who was found guilty of falsifying a document related to FISA surveillance on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. Clinesmith received a one-year bar suspension instead of prison time.

In response to Durham’s report, the FBI stated that it has already implemented numerous corrective actions and emphasized the importance of maintaining rigor, objectivity, and professionalism in their work. However, Durham stressed in his opening statement that the problems identified in the report cannot be solved overnight and require accountability from law enforcement personnel.
