Lawyer John Eastman to challenge Georgia Trump RICO case.

A Lawyer ⁤Vows to Challenge⁢ Indictment Against Fulton County ⁣Defendant

A lawyer representing Fulton County defendant John Eastman has condemned the indictment against his client, former President Donald Trump, and other allies as a “political” move. In a statement, Eastman’s attorney Harvey Silverglate expressed his determination to challenge the charges ‍”in ⁤any and all forums.”

“Lawyers everywhere should be sleepless over this latest stunt to criminalize their⁢ advocacy,” Silverglate told the Washington Examiner. “This is a legal cluster bomb that leaves‌ unexploded ordinances for lawyers to navigate in perpetuity.”

Three Key Revelations from the Georgia Indictment Against Donald Trump

The 41-count indictment, released late Monday night, names 19 individuals, including the ‍former president‌ and his lawyers Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman. The ⁤charges accuse the defendants of unlawfully conspiring to conduct and participate in‌ a “criminal enterprise” following Trump’s loss in the 2020 election in Georgia.

Eastman, a former visiting professor at the University of Colorado, is specifically accused of aiding in the design of a legal strategy aimed at keeping Trump in power after his election defeat. He is also‍ alleged to be a central figure ⁣in promoting baseless claims of fraudulent electors ⁣in swing states won by Biden.

One⁤ of the acts of conspiracy listed in the indictment alleges that Eastman met with Vice President Mike ‍Pence’s chief of staff⁣ and counsel on⁤ January 5, 2021, to request Pence’s rejection of certain presidential electors during the joint session of Congress the following day.

Silverglate argues that the indictment ⁣against Eastman and the others is “political,⁣ but not criminal.” He asserts that Eastman will utilize all available forums to challenge the charges, emphasizing the violation of constitutional rights to freedom of speech, the right to petition the government, and‌ the right to counsel.

Eastman ‌is also facing disbarment proceedings in California, which he has requested ‍to be put on‍ hold⁤ due to concerns about potential criminal charges in a separate federal investigation.

Fulton⁢ County⁣ District Attorney Fani ⁢Willis has given ⁤Eastman and the other defendants until August 25 ⁣at noon to surrender to law enforcement.
