John Kennedy contends ‘goofy’ anti-Trump celebrities hate Founding Fathers
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) offered a firm dismissal to celebrities chiding supporters of President-elect Donald Trump, contending these people are entitled to their “goofy” opinions.
Kennedy’s comments come shortly after actress Sharon Stone contended that voters need to recognize that the United States is in its era of “ignorant, arrogant adolescence,” which she made in the wake of Trump winning the 2024 presidential election. The Louisiana senator contended that those critical of Trump supporters are “goofy,” adding that they also hate many other people who have been pivotal to the United States’s history.
“They have the right to their opinion, but they’re just goofy,” Kennedy said on Fox News’s Hannity. “They hate George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln, and Dr. Seuss, and Mr. Potatohead. They think our kids ought to be able to change genders at recess. They carry around Ziploc bags of kale to give themselves energy. To me, to each his own. To me, it tastes like I’d rather be fat. Now, these people are entitled to their opinion, but they have an unwarranted sense of moral and intellectual superiority. They think they’re smarter and more virtuous than the American people.”
Kennedy also argued that celebrities who dislike Trump do not see Trump supporters as “real people,” insisting that “we are real people.” He added that these people got “real mad” ahead of the 2024 election and chose to send a message “clearly, unequivocally.”
“And my message to all my friends and my enemies in America is Happy Thanksgiving, and stay deplorable, my friend!” Kennedy said.
Kennedy also addressed Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) push for green energy and electric vehicles, suggesting the U.S. public is “very capable of making their own decisions” on adopting these vehicles. He stressed that while he does not hate anyone, he views the California governor as a “featherweight” who is similar to other “superficial” people he has met in Washington, D.C.
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has also been critical of Newsom’s push for green energy, including the governor’s announcement that California would provide rebates for those who purchased electric vehicles and should eliminate federal tax credits on these cars. McCarthy argued that Newsom “wants to attack his own state” and that the governor has no future in politics once he finishes his term.
