John Legend suggests Black voters are turning away from Biden due to ‘masculinity’ concerns

John Legend, ⁣a liberal activist, ‌pointed out⁤ that‌ young Black and Latino male voters⁤ are swaying towards former President Trump ⁢due to his⁢ perceived “masculinity.” He emphasized this on the “Pod Save America” podcast, advocating for Biden to address‍ this shift.⁤ Legend acknowledged Trump’s appeal among men of various backgrounds ⁣and⁤ highlighted potential ‍implications⁢ for the Biden campaign. Additionally, he mentioned ‌concerns about ⁢economic ⁢misinformation benefiting Trump.

Liberal activist John Legend said young black and latino male voters are leaving President Joe Biden because former President Donald Trump’s form of “masculinity” appeals to some men.

Speaking on the “Pod Save America” podcastrun by several former aides to former President Barack Obama — the 45-year-old singer said he thinks Biden should be the president and admitted Trump narrowing the margin with black and latino young male voters is going to have to be dealt with by the Biden campaign.

“Well, I think Trump performs a form of masculinity that I think is attractive to some people,” Legend said. “To be clear, black men, even an uptick for Trump, is still a landslide for Biden. … But there is an uptick and that uptick, it may be enough to win Wisconsin or it may be enough to win Michigan.”

“And so, it’s an issue that the campaign is going to have to deal with,” he added. “But I do think Trump performs a form of masculinity that is appealing to some men, black, white, hispanic, across the board, and that may explain the uptick.”

The “Voice” coach also claimed that there’s a lot of “disinformation” going around about the economy, which he suggested is benefiting Trump.

“I hear a lot of misinformation and disinformation about the economy under Trump and what’s happened since. To be clear, the economy is doing quite well,” he added.

Later in the interview, the hosts and Legend talked about the feeling in the culture that it’s “uncool” to vote for Biden.

“It does feel uncool and they are both old,” the singer replied. “And it’s hard for people. They both decline in their ability to talk to the people and just seem vigorous and energetic. And it’s hard for people to get excited about that.”

In May, a Fox News survey showed the president’s support among black voters has gone down from the 79% he was at before the 2020 election to 72% support.

Polling from Gallup conducted in April showed that Americans named inflation or the high cost of living as the most important financial problem facing their families.

Forty-one percent selected inflation or the high cost of living for the open-ended question, which is the highest figure yet in Gallup’s annual Economy and Personal Finance poll.
