South Carolina State Sen. ⁢John Scott,⁣ a Democratic lawmaker who had been an elected leader for over 30 years, has sadly passed away at the age of​ 69. He was being treated at the Medical University ⁢of South Carolina hospital, and​ the‌ cause of his death is currently⁤ unknown. Earlier⁣ this year, Scott had ⁢experienced some trouble ⁣with blood clot issues, ⁢but it is unclear if this was related.

A Legacy of Service

A Special Election to Fill the Void

In ‍light⁤ of Scott’s passing, a special election will be held to fill ‌his seat. ⁤The process‍ will involve filing ⁢for ​the vacant ‍seat, followed ⁤by a primary‍ election approximately three months later. The special election ‍itself will take place roughly ⁣five months after the ⁤vacancy, as outlined by the ‌state legislature.
