Sen. Joni Ernst Calls Out Hypocrisy in Biden Administration’s Environmental Agenda

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) is not holding back in criticizing the Biden administration’s environmental agenda. She is particularly targeting John Kerry, the president’s climate envoy, and other bureaucrats who advocate for net-zero carbon dioxide emissions while engaging in extensive worldwide plane travel.

During a recent revelation, Ernst shared eye-opening statistics about the number of trips made in the name of climate change by the Biden administration.

Figures Unveiled

Ernst presented new figures from the Government Accountability Office, which showed that in 2022, Kerry led 259 officials from 17 different agencies and offices on a trip to Egypt, where they notably promoted net-zero emissions. Kerry also traveled by plane earlier this year to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Additionally, he attended the G-7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy, and Environment in April.

In 2021, Ernst revealed that 90 observers, including 20 representatives, 18 senators, and 52 congressional staffers, traveled to the U.N. Climate Conference. She highlighted that Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was an observer at the event in 2022.

Ernst, along with Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), requested that the GAO calculate the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by the administration’s travel. However, the office claimed it does “not have a systematic way to calculate greenhouse gas emissions from U.S. delegation travel,” despite Biden’s commitment to the environment.

The Iowa senator aims to address this issue with a new bill called the Executive Branch Emissions Transparency Act.

Exposing the Double Standard

Ernst expressed her frustration, stating, “The gas is always greener when you’re burning fossil fuels in the name of saving the planet. While giving lip service to greenies, Biden bureaucrats are blatantly emitting the greenhouse gases they demonize. The double standard is clear, and Americans have had enough of this hot air. It’s time for Biden bureaucrats to face the facts: according to their own actions, American-made fossil fuels are not the enemy. I am committed to exposing this hypocrisy.”

Moore Capito added, “In the Biden administration, the same people who are closing down power plants across the country and forcing Americans to buy electric vehicles are also the ones flying to climate conferences and using fossil fuels without apology. I’m proud to join Senator Ernst in continuing our push for accountability and standing up for those who are understandably frustrated by the hypocrisy we’ve seen time and time again.”

Biden’s Stance on Climate Change

President Biden has been a vocal advocate for fighting climate change and reducing fossil fuel use. He has referred to the issue as both an “existential threat” and a “clear and present danger.”

The administration has set ambitious goals, including achieving a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035 and establishing a net-zero emissions economy by no later than 2050.
