Rep. Jim Jordan’s First Move as House Speaker: Prioritizing Support for Israel
During an appearance on Sunday Morning Futures, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) revealed his top priority as House speaker, if elected. He emphasized the importance of supporting Israel, especially in light of the recent attacks by Hamas.
The Ohio Republican’s statement comes as Hamas continues to launch rockets and send fighters into Israel. The attacks began on Simchat Torah, a Jewish holiday, resulting in a death toll of approximately 200 people as of Sunday afternoon. In response, Israel has launched a counter strike into Palestine.
Resolution to Support Israel: Jordan’s First Directive
When asked about his first directive as speaker, Jordan pledged to introduce a resolution to support the state of Israel. He believes this is an issue that will garner bipartisan and bicameral support from the United States government.
“This is our great friend and great ally – the state of Israel. I think that’s front and center,” Jordan stated.
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) is also vying for the speaker position, but former President Donald Trump has endorsed Jordan over the House Majority leader.
“The American people right now are thirsty for leadership, and I don’t think they’re seeing it from the White House or the Senate,” Jordan continued. “House Republicans need to unite and show the country that we’re fighting for them.”
Jordan, a founding member of the Freedom Caucus and an eight-term representative, currently chairs the House Judiciary Committee. He has been leading an investigation into Hunter Biden, which he vows to continue if elected speaker.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) term as speaker was the shortest in over a century, following Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) nearly eight-year tenure.
