Since Trudeau resigned from the position, Conservative Party of Canada Leader Pierre Poilievre has emerged as his likely successor. At the moment, Poilievre’s party has 120 seats in the House of Commons, while Trudeau’s Liberal Party has 153 seats.

Peterson signaled his own support for Poilievre while on Fox News’s One Nation with Brian Kilmeade on Saturday. Kilmeade asked the psychologist whether Trudeau’s absence would be good for his home country.

“I hope it can be a great thing; it’s at least the end of a disaster,” Peterson said. “Canada was at parity for per capita GDP with the U.S. nine years ago when Trudeau took the helm, and now Canadians are at 60%. And our real estate is twice as expensive as the U.S. So that is a catastrophe. He’s been a catastrophe. So at least a catastrophe will be gone.”

Trudeau was often the target of Peterson’s criticisms for his actions when Canadian truckers protested against COVID-19 restrictions and when an unusual influx in immigration increased the Canadian population to 41 million. Meanwhile, Poilievre sat down for an interview with Peterson.

“[Poilievre’s] hope is that Canada and the U.S. can have the best relationship internationally under his leadership that the two countries have ever had. Which is obviously the appropriate thing to do both for the U.S. and for Canada,” Peterson said. “Canada is the U.S.’s major trading partner and the reverse is clearly true. Canada has a virtually unlimited supply of energy and resources. There’s absolutely no reason the new MAGA hope that America can boom can’t be boom time for Canada and the U.S. jointly.”

The Conservative Party has held on to its seats in the House of Commons since last year. Meanwhile, Canada’s Liberal Party has lost five seats since then, proving an overall shift away from its policies due to Trudeau’s performance.
