Jordan subpoenas FBI agent accused of suppressing Hunter Biden laptop story.
Republican Congressman Subpoenas FBI Agent Accused of Suppressing Hunter Biden Laptop Story
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has taken action by subpoenaing an FBI agent who has been accused of coordinating the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story. This comes after the Justice Department prevented the agent from appearing for a transcribed interview with lawmakers.
Jordan, who serves as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, issued the subpoena to Elvis Chan, an FBI agent based in San Francisco. House Republicans claim that Chan was the main conduit between the bureau’s Foreign Influence Task Force and Big Tech companies in order to suppress the scandalous laptop story in the weeks leading up to the 2020 presidential election.
“The Committee on the Judiciary is conducting oversight of how and to what extent the Executive Branch has coerced and colluded with companies and other intermediaries to censor speech,” Jordan said in a letter to Chan. “As the primary liaison between the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF) and social media companies, you are uniquely positioned to aid the Committee’s oversight.”
According to Jordan, Chan previously told lawmakers that the FBI had not communicated with Facebook outside of a meeting on October 14, 2020, the same day the New York Post published the Biden laptop article. However, Jordan claims that Chan was involved in a secret “follow up” call with the social media giant the next day, contradicting his previous statement during a deposition in the government censorship case Missouri v. Biden.
Furthermore, Chan spoke with a Facebook employee on the same day, stating that he was up to speed on the current state of the matter within the FBI and that there was no evidence suggesting any foreign connection to the leaks. These details were revealed in documents released by Jordan.
In his letter, Jordan referenced increasing evidence of coordination between the White House and social media companies to suppress conservative content, beyond just the Post’s story on Hunter’s laptop.
“Numerous documents that have been made publicly available reflect the weaponization of the federal government’s power to censor speech online directly and by proxy. It is necessary for Congress to gauge the extent to which FBI agents coerced, pressured, worked with, or relied upon social media and other tech companies to censor speech,” Jordan wrote.
Recent documents released by Congress also show that a White House official asked Facebook to promote legacy outlets and limit The Daily Wire’s reach in order to align with the administration’s directives on suppressing content related to the COVID vaccine agenda.

What evidence do House Republicans have to support their claim that the FBI coordinated with Big Tech companies to limit the spread of the Hunter Biden laptop story?
The federal agencies in order to suppress and censor information that could be detrimental to a political campaign,” Jordan said in a statement. “It is essential that we hold federal agencies accountable for their actions, especially when it involves interfering with the free flow of information.”
The Hunter Biden laptop story emerged in October 2020, just weeks before the presidential election. The story alleged that Hunter Biden, the son of then-candidate Joe Biden, had left a laptop at a computer repair store in Delaware that contained incriminating emails and other evidence of corruption. The laptop was eventually turned over to the FBI, and while the agency confirmed its authenticity, they did not take any public action regarding the contents.
House Republicans, including Jordan, believe that the FBI deliberately suppressed the story in order to protect the Biden campaign. They claim that the agency, under the direction of then-Director Christopher Wray, coordinated with Big Tech companies such as Twitter and Facebook to limit the spread of the story on their platforms. Twitter even went so far as to temporarily lock the account of the New York Post, which was the first outlet to report on the laptop.
“The American people have a right to know the truth, and they deserve transparency from their government,” Jordan said. “The actions of the FBI in this matter raise serious doubts about their commitment to objective and unbiased investigations.”
The subpoena of Agent Chan is the latest effort by House Republicans to uncover the truth behind the alleged suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story. Earlier this year, the House Judiciary Committee sent letters to then-Attorney General William Barr, FBI Director Wray, and Big Tech CEOs, requesting information and documents related to the handling of the story. However, the Justice Department blocked Chan from testifying, claiming that it would interfere with an ongoing investigation.
“In order to ensure that justice is served and the American people are not left in the dark, we must have access to all relevant information and testimony,” Jordan said. “Subpoenaing Agent Chan is a necessary step in our pursuit of the truth.”
The subpoena requires Agent Chan to appear before the House Judiciary Committee for a transcribed interview on October 11, 2021. It is unclear whether Chan will comply with the subpoena, as the Justice Department has previously prevented him from testifying.
As the investigation into the alleged suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story continues, House Republicans are determined to hold the FBI and other federal agencies accountable for their actions. They believe that the American people deserve transparency and an unbiased investigation, free from any political interference.
“The suppression of information is a direct threat to our democracy,” Jordan said. “We will not stop until the truth is uncovered and those responsible are held accountable.”
