Jordanian citizen killed in DC double homicide

Hamza Jamil Zki Abo Halaoh, 32, was a ride-for hire driver from Jordan. He was shot and killed in the crash in Southeast Washington, D.C. The crash also left a third victim in the SUV. He was not shot.

Police stated that officers responded around 8:25 p.m. to reports of a shooting close to 11th Street Southeast. Officers arrived on the scene and found two gunshot wounds to two men sitting in an SUV.
The SUV collided with several cars that were parked along the street. The owner of the vehicle discovered a bullet hole in his back windshield and that the bullet had also broken a storefront window.
D.C. Police Captain Kevin Kentish Reporters Officers discovered a firearm on the scene. However, there is no evidence linking the firearm to the victim’s vehicle. It has not been proven that either the victims engaged in gunfire, or that the victims of the SUV attack were armed.
The shooting was believed to be a targeted incident, but police did not comment on whether or not the SUV was part rideshare. Police don’t believe Abo Halaoh was the target.
Although officers could not confirm that Abo Halaoh was the second victim in the shooting, a spokesperson for the Jordan Embassy confirmed that Abo Halaoh was legally in the United States. The embassy is currently in contact with DC police, FBI and the Ministry of Jordan.
Osama Abu Halaweh, Abo’s cousin, stated to Fox 5 DC News that Abo was here to fulfill the American Dream.
“Let me tell you something, Hamza has been dreaming to go to America to work — just to live the America Dream — for about like 15 years, since we were in the school,” Abu Halaweh stated.
His cousin stated that Abo Halaoh has left behind a wife, and two 3-year-old daughters. His family had planned to move to the U.S. and his wife holds U.S. citizenship.
Islam Johar claimed he has a rideshare company like Uber. Fox 5 reported that Abo Halaoh worked for him the night of his death and that Johar owned the SUV.
Johar described Abo Halaoh as his best friend, and said he was the man he would call every day.
“Hamza has relatives [in Jordan] that we are like, hearts are broken now ‘cause we don’t know what happened to him,” Abu Halaweh stated. “Hamza is a very decent guy and all he wants is to live like a decent life for his family and children.”

Although the vehicle of the suspect is a sedan and no other details were given about the nature of the suspect,
The Washington Examiner was informed by the Metropolitan Police Department that the case is still under investigation. For information on each homicide, the department will offer a reward up to $25,000 to anyone who provides it. The total amount is $50,000.
