During his testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Wray highlighted Abuayyash as an example of the⁤ risks the nation faces from potential copy-cat terrorists and the rise in anti-Semitism.

“We have seen that with an individual we arrested last ‍week in⁣ Houston had ⁣studied how to build bombs and posted online about his support for killing Jews,” Wray stated during the testimony.

Wray also emphasized that the biggest concern for the‍ U.S. is violent religious extremists‍ who draw inspiration from Middle Eastern terrorist attacks⁣ and use that knowledge ⁤to plan attacks ⁣on Americans, referring‍ to Abuayyash.

Abuayyash,⁣ a Jordanian national traveling on a Palestinian passport,‍ filed an asylum application in the United States in⁣ 2020, which is currently pending.

“Abuayyash has been ⁣in direct ⁢contact with others who ‌share a radical mindset, has been⁣ conducting physical training, and ‌has trained⁣ with weapons possibly to commit an‍ attack,” the criminal complaint ⁤states.

A judge‍ has ordered that Abuayyash be‌ kept in custody until his trial date to ensure the safety of ⁢the community and others.
