Hawley specifically mentioned a “fishy” aspect of this story, noting how FBI Director Christopher Wray and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas bailed on testifying to the Senate for their yearly hearing on “threats to the homeland” last month and have yet to reschedule this meeting. Another factor contributing to this suspicion, Hawley added, is how Wray and Mayorkas are sending their deputies to testify “behind closed doors” on Thursday instead.

“They do not want to talk about this in public. They don’t want to answer questions about it,” Hawley said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime. “This is really weird, and it’s getting weirder. They need to level with the American people.”

Hawley shared his own suspicions about the lack of clarity from the House of Representatives on these drone sightings, suggesting its members are getting “the total run-around” on this issue. 

Watters jokingly suggested that comedian Rosie O’Donnell is right in assessing that these drones could be “aliens.” Hawley chuckled while noting that “anything is possible” and recalled how the Biden administration did “nothing” about “a Chinese spy balloon” last year, referring to how the administration allowed a flying object to travel across the continental United States, including over sensitive military locations, before shooting it down in the Atlantic Ocean.

On Tuesday, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby attempted to quell concerns about the drones, saying the information available shows they are “lawful, legal aviation activity.” He also stressed they would update the public if any new information contradicts their current assessment of the drones’ legality.

President-elect Donald Trump addressed the drone sightings in a news conference on Monday, claiming President Joe Biden and the military know what these sightings are but that “for some reason, they want to keep people in suspense.” He also suggested he would avoid his Bedminster, New Jersey, resort for the time being.
