Judge Blocks Biden’s Deportation Freeze

A federal judge on Tuesday banned enforcement of President Joe Biden’s executive order freezing deportations.

U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton issued a preliminary injunction in favor of Texas, saying Biden’s immigration order—a 100-day pause on deportations—violated federal law and imposed extra costs on the state, according to the Associated Press.

The Biden administration has not said whether it plans to appeal the injunction. A spokeswoman for the Department of Justice told the Washington Free Beacon that “the Department disagrees with the ruling and is considering next steps.”

Biden originally announced the freeze as part of a larger review of the federal government’s immigration policies. The Biden administration has pursued its own agenda in part by withdrawing dozens of pending executive orders from the Trump administration, including those that increase protections for American workers by tightening immigration restrictions.

Biden eliminated the previous administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy this month, allowing more than 25,000 asylum seekers to enter the United States for immigration hearings. A growing number of congressional Republicans have signed on to efforts opposing the administration’s expansive immigration policies on the grounds of public health, economic security, and border security concerns.
