Judge Cannon orders attorneys to comply with Trump documents case by Tuesday.
The Judge’s First Order in Trump Documents Case: Attorneys Must Comply by Tuesday
The legal battle between former President Donald Trump and the Department of Justice has taken a new turn. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has issued her first order since being assigned to the case, and it’s a significant one.
According to CNN, Judge Cannon has ordered all attorneys involved in the case to obtain their required security clearances due to the sensitive nature of the matter. This move highlights the seriousness of the allegations against Trump and the importance of protecting classified information.

The judge’s order requires all attorneys of record and forthcoming attorneys of record to contact the Justice Department’s litigation security group by Friday to expedite the necessary clearance process. This deadline emphasizes the urgency of the situation.
Attorneys in the case have until Tuesday to comply with the order. As of Thursday evening, Trump’s attorneys Todd Blanche and Chris Kise have already done so, according to reports.
This development comes just days after Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 counts related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents. Special counsel Jack Smith, appointed to investigate the former president’s actions, brought the charges against Trump last week.
Smith, whose wife directed a documentary about former first lady Michelle Obama and donated to Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland last year.
The investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents began after the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago property in August 2022. Ten months later, the DOJ charged him with multiple felonies, including violations of the Espionage Act.
Trump has vehemently denied the charges and remains determined to fight them. Several of his rivals in the 2024 Republican primary race have pledged to pardon him if they win the presidency.
Judge Cannon’s involvement in the case has not been without controversy. Calls for her recusal have come from Democrats and the establishment media, but she has shown no intention of stepping down.

Judge Cannon, nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida in May 2020, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Nov. 12, 2020. Her recent order demonstrates her commitment to overseeing this high-profile case.
