Abbott hails Paxton’s acquittal by Senate: ‘Jury has spoken’
Governor Greg Abbott Praises Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Acquittal
Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) enthusiastically commended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton after Paxton’s triumphant acquittal from impeachment charges of corruption and abuse of public office.
In a statement released shortly after the Texas Senate voted to clear Paxton of the 16 impeachment articles, Governor Abbott expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Paxton and lauded his exceptional performance as the state’s top lawyer. The state House had impeached Paxton in May, alleging that he had shown favoritism towards an Austin real estate developer and campaign supporter, Nate Paul, while Paul was under FBI investigation.
“The jury has spoken. Attorney General Paxton received a fair trial as required by the Texas Constitution. Attorney General Paxton has done an outstanding job representing Texas, especially pushing back against the Biden administration. I look forward to continuing to work with him to secure the border and protect Texas from federal overreach,” Abbottsaid in a statement.
None of the impeachment articles, which required a two-thirds majority vote in the Senate, garnered even a simple majority. Only Senators Kelly Hancock and Robert Nichols, both Republicans, voted in favor of any of the impeachment articles.
“Today, the truth prevailed,” Paxton said jubilantly after the vote. “I’ve said many times: See the truth! And that is what was accomplished.”
“I also thank my legal team for exposing the absurdity of these false allegations,” Paxton said. “The weaponization of the impeachment process to settle political differences is not only wrong, it is immoral and corrupt.”
He asserted that the impeachment was orchestrated by the Biden administration and “liberal House Speaker Dade Phelan.”

The impeachment managers in the House accused Paxton of accepting bribes from Paul, including an agreement to hire Paxton’s alleged mistress and renovations to Paxton’s home. In return, Paxton allegedly provided assistance to Paul during the FBI investigation.
Prosecutors called upon former members of Paxton’s office and staff to testify against him. Several former prosecutors who had worked for Paxton reported his connections with Paul to the FBI in 2020.
Representative Andrew Murr, who oversaw the impeachment, affirmed that the House had diligently presented its case against Paxton.
“We did our duty to bring the evidence into the sunlight through this impeachment process,” he said. “I know that we presented a factual, credible case. I would not do anything differently.”
As a result of his acquittal, Paxton has been reinstated to his role as attorney general after being suspended during the impeachment proceedings.
How might Ken Paxton’s acquittal impact his future political prospects, and what message does Governor Abbott’s support send to conservatives in Texas
“_blank” rel=”noopener”>tweeted in response to the Senate’s decision. “I have never wavered in my commitment to the people of Texas, and I will continue to fulfill my duty to protect and defend the Constitution.”
Paxton’s acquittal comes as a victory for the embattled Attorney General, who has faced legal troubles throughout his tenure. He is currently under indictment for securities fraud and is awaiting trial. Despite these ongoing legal challenges, Governor Abbott has consistently supported Paxton and praised his work in defending Texas’s interests.
Throughout his career, Paxton has been a strong advocate for conservative values and has frequently clashed with the federal government. He played a crucial role in challenging the Affordable Care Act in court, and he has been a vocal opponent of the Biden administration’s immigration policies. His acquittal sends a clear message that he will continue to fight for the conservative principles he believes in.
The impeachment proceedings against Paxton were highly politicized, with Republicans defending him and Democrats calling for his removal from office. The fact that none of the impeachment articles received even a simple majority vote highlights the partisan divide surrounding the case.
Governor Abbott’s praise for Paxton’s acquittal underscores his commitment to the conservative agenda and his support for those who actively challenge federal overreach. As Texas Attorney General, Paxton is in a key position to defend the state’s interests and push back against policies that he believes infringe on individual liberties.
Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how Paxton’s acquittal impacts his future political prospects. Some may argue that his legal troubles have tarnished his reputation, while others may view his acquittal as a sign of his resilience and determination. Regardless, Governor Abbott’s support for Paxton sends a strong message to conservatives in Texas that the state’s leadership is firmly committed to their cause.
In conclusion, Governor Greg Abbott’s praise for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s acquittal demonstrates his unwavering support for Paxton and his belief in his ability to serve the state. While the impeachment proceedings were politically charged, the lack of support for the charges highlights the deep partisan divide. With his legal troubles ongoing, Paxton’s future remains uncertain. However, Governor Abbott’s public endorsement is likely to bolster his standing among conservatives in Texas.
