Kacey Musgraves, Reese Witherspoon Announce Plans For ‘Inclusive’ Country Music Competition Series
Actress Reese Witherspoon and country singer Kacey Musgraves announced plans for a new reality television competition series called “My Kind Of Country” on Apple TV Plus. The show seeks to make country music more “inclusive and representative” as per a recent tweet by Witherspoon.
“MyKindOfCountry was born out of conversations w/Kacey Musgraves about how country music needs to be more inclusive & representative,” tweeted the “Legally Blonde” star. She also added that the show will give aspiring artists from around the world the opportunity to come to Nashville and live their country music dreams. The show is now available for streaming on Apple TV Plus.
The idea for the show came about when Witherspoon and Musgraves questioned why the country music business is so closed off and why there aren’t more global influences and perspectives. Witherspoon further explained that the competition will be very international in order to reach a global audience, and it will also highlight voices that have not been heard before.
“My Kind Of Country” features three artists to be talent scouts, who will scour the world for some of the best musical talent. The list of talent scouts includes Jimmie Allen, 2021 CMA new artist of the year winner, country singer Mickey Guyton, and LGBTQ country artist Orville Peck.
The eight-part series will have both Musgraves and Witherspoon serving as executive producers, with the first episode airing on March 24.
