Kamala-supported bail fund revenue drops 98%.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund: From Hero to Zero
“To help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota.”
The Minnesota Freedom Fund, once hailed as a social justice hero, has suffered a massive drop in donations. According to tax forms obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, the fund raised just $837,000 in 2021, a far cry from the $41.7 million it raised during the George Floyd riots in 2020.
What happened? Well, it turns out that the fund used those donations to bail out a host of violent offenders, including alleged murderers and pedophiles. And as a result, its support has dwindled.
Black Lives Matter: Another Social Justice Darling Falls from Grace
The Minnesota Freedom Fund is not alone in its decline. Black Lives Matter, which raised $90 million following Floyd’s death, reported an 88 percent drop in revenues in its 2022 fiscal year. The group spent a sizable portion of its windfall on luxury mansions and lucrative contracts for the family and friends of the group’s co-founder, Patrisse Cullors.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund’s Downfall
So, what did the Minnesota Freedom Fund do with all that money? Not much, it seems. The group spent only $210,000 to help bail people out of jail facing protest-related charges, according to its own reporting in September 2020. The rest went to post bail for violent offenders.
Some of those offenders went on to commit more crimes, including murder. George Howard, who was bailed out of jail by the Minnesota Freedom Fund following a domestic violence charge, shot and killed a man during a road rage incident in August 2021. And repeat felon Shawn Michael Tillman shot and killed a passenger on a St. Paul light rail platform in May 2022, just a month after the fund helped secure his release from jail on a separate indecent exposure charge.
It’s no wonder that the Minnesota Freedom Fund has fallen from grace. But will other social justice organizations learn from its mistakes?
