Kamala Harris starts nationwide tour advocating abortion rights
Vice President Kamala Harris Launches Nationwide Tour to Promote Abortion Access
Vice President Kamala Harris is embarking on an exciting nationwide tour to champion abortion access, coinciding with President Biden’s 2024 campaign preparations.
The tour, titled “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms,” will kick off in Wisconsin on January 22, commemorating the 51st anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, as stated by the White House. Additional dates and locations will be announced soon.
Roe v. Wade, the historic ruling that legalized abortion across the nation, was overturned in June of the previous year.
In a captivating video message shared on X, Harris passionately expressed, “There is a full-on attack in our country against the ability of people to just make decisions about their own body and their life.”
Across our nation, there is a full-on attack on a woman’s fundamental freedom to make decisions about her own body.
In the new year, I will be traveling the country to organize, build community, and fight back.

In a statement, Harris further emphasized, “Extremists across our country continue to wage a full-on attack against hard-won, hard-fought freedoms as they push their radical policies – from banning abortion in all 50 states and criminalizing doctors, to forcing women to travel out of state in order to get the care they need.”
The tour comes at a time when polls reveal that, for the first time, Harris is viewed more favorably than President Biden, whose approval ratings are currently low. According to a recent poll by Monmouth University, Biden received a dismal 34% approval rating, while Harris enjoyed a slightly higher 35% approval.
During the tour, Harris will host events that shed light on the detrimental impact of abortion bans and share compelling stories of those affected. She will also “hold extremists accountable” for proposing a national abortion ban and call on Congress to reinstate legalized abortion as protected by Roe v. Wade, as announced by the White House. Additionally, the vice president will highlight the Biden administration’s efforts to preserve legal abortion and encourage attendees to use their voices and remain engaged in the fight for fundamental freedoms.
In September, Harris embarked on a separate college tour titled “Fight for Our Freedoms,” where she passionately advocated for various issues, including abortion, gun laws, climate change, voting laws, LGBT rights, comprehensive history education, and access to books that have faced restrictions in certain school districts.
As the presidential election cycle intensifies, abortion remains a contentious topic. Republicans celebrate recent victories in the pro-life movement, while Democrats focus on the abortion issue, hoping to generate voter backlash in 2024.
In 2020, there were over 620,000 abortions across 47 states and the District of Columbia, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Guttmacher Institute estimates the national total to be significantly higher, surpassing 930,000 abortions for the same year.
According to a June Associated Press poll, only half of Americans support legal abortion beyond 15 weeks, which marks the beginning of the second trimester.

What is the goal of Vice President Harris’ nationwide tour regarding reproductive rights?
Rris received a 47% approval rating.
During the nationwide tour, Vice President Harris will hold town hall meetings, engage with local activists, and meet with healthcare providers and patients who have been impacted by restrictive abortion laws. The goal of the tour is to raise awareness about the importance of reproductive rights and to push for the protection and expansion of abortion access across the country.
Harris has been a vocal advocate for women’s reproductive rights throughout her career. As a senator, she co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act, which aimed to safeguard women’s access to reproductive healthcare services and protect them from restrictive abortion laws. During her campaign for vice president, Harris vowed to fight for access to safe and legal abortions and to protect the reproductive rights of all women.
The tour also aligns with President Biden’s commitment to protect and defend reproductive rights. During his campaign, Biden promised to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade into law, ensuring that women’s access to abortion cannot be restricted by individual states. He has also taken steps to reverse the Title X gag rule, which prohibited clinics that receive federal funding from providing information or referrals for abortion services.
However, the fight for abortion access is far from over. In recent years, conservative states have enacted a wave of restrictive abortion laws, including bans on abortion after a certain gestational age or heartbeat detection. These laws have forced many women to travel long distances or even out of state to access the care they need. The tour seeks to highlight these barriers and mobilize support for reproductive rights.
The Vice President’s tour has been met with both support and criticism. Pro-choice advocates and organizations have applauded Harris for her commitment to reproductive rights and for using her platform to raise awareness about the threats to abortion access. They see the tour as a crucial step in the fight to ensure that all women can make decisions about their own bodies.
However, anti-abortion groups and conservative politicians have criticized the tour as an extreme and partisan move. They argue that it disregards the rights and concerns of unborn children and ignores the diverse range of opinions on abortion in the United States. Some opponents of abortion rights have also accused Harris of using the tour as a political strategy to rally support for the upcoming 2024 presidential campaign.
Regardless of the criticisms, Vice President Kamala Harris remains committed to advocating for reproductive rights and ensuring that all women have access to safe and legal abortions. With her nationwide tour, she hopes to spark a national conversation and mobilize support for the protection and expansion of abortion access. As the fight for reproductive rights continues, the Vice President’s leadership and activism are vital in shaping the future of abortion access in the United States.
