Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live after campaigning earlier in the day, which included a jab at her opponent, former President Donald Trump, and mocking her own laugh.
Appearing at the end of the show‘s cold open as a mirrored version of actress and comedian Maya Rudolph, Harris offered encouragement to Rudolph in the presidential race, which comes to a close in two days, and said, “You do something your opponent cannot do. You can open doors.”
Harris was referencing a clip of Trump appearing to struggle to open the door of a garbage truck as he sought to capitalize on President Joe Biden’s comment earlier this week when he called Trump supporters “garbage.”
Rudolph gave an extended laugh at the jab of Trump from Harris, to which Harris replied, “I don’t really laugh like that, do I?”
The skit closed with a reference to the importance of winning the battleground state of Pennsylvania, with Rudolph saying, “I’m going to vote for us,” and Harris replying, “Any chance you’re registered to vote in Pennsylvania?”
Trump leads Harris by less than 1 percentage point in the state, according to polling from RealClearPolitics.
Harris was not the only politician on the show Saturday night, however. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), who is up for reelection, appeared in a game show skit where contestants had no idea of his name, ribbing that he’s been long forgotten after being Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential choice in 2016.
Kaine is up over 11 percentage points over his opponent, Republican Hung Cao, in the Virginia Senate race.
