Kamala Harris to mark anniversary of Roe reversal in major North Carolina speech
Vice President Kamala Harris will play a key role in the Biden administration’s plans to mark the anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade and changed abortion policy across the country.
Speaking in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 24, Harris is set to contrast Republican policies and proposals on abortion with those of the Biden administration, according to NBC News.

She will be speaking to a crowd of supporters, advocates, and community leaders in the state.
The speech is just one of the several events the White House has planned to promote abortion rights in the month of June. Other events will feature President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
Harris will further join MSNBC’s Joy Reid next week to participate in a roundtable discussion on the effect of the Supreme Court’s decision.
In a statement provided to the Washington Examiner, Susan B. Anthony Pro Life America said, “Before she was vice president, Harris was notorious for prosecuting the whistleblowers who exposed Planned Parenthood’s role in the harvest and sale of body parts from aborted babies. Sadly, we’re seeing that same abortion extremism shape the Left’s post-Roe politics today. Now Harris is the point person for the administration’s radical agenda of taxpayer funded late-term abortion, which the American people overwhelmingly reject.”
The organization also shared that it will be commemorating “this victory” with people such as Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Kellyanne Conway, and other female lawmakers that it says “led the charge on pro-life laws.” It will also be joined by pregnancy resource center directors and some of the mothers that have received support from them.
Last year, the Supreme Court ruled in a 6–3 decision to return the issue of abortion to individual states. The move overturned prior decisions Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which had been widely supported by abortion rights activists.

Since the decision, states across the country have adopted significantly varying policies regarding abortion. Several Republican-led states have instituted laws to severely limit the procedure, while many Democratic-led states have enshrined the right to an abortion into law.
As the Republican presidential primary field shapes up, candidates have been pressed on how they would address abortion. Several presidential hopefuls have indicated a desire to institute a federal abortion ban. However, others, such as former President Donald Trump, have remained vague about what abortion policy would look like under their watch.
