President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in for his second term next month and will make history as the first president not serving consecutive terms. Should Xi decide to attend, it would be the first time a foreign leader from any country has attended the ceremony in nearly 150 years.

“This is an example of President Trump creating an open dialogue with leaders of countries that are not just our allies but our adversaries and our competitors, too. We saw this in the first term, before,” Leavitt said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends Thursday. “He is willing to talk to anyone, and he will always put America’s interests first.”

The inaugural committee has a tradition of inviting world leaders each cycle. Leavitt confirmed that other world leaders were also invited per “precedent.”

Longtime Trump ally Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is reportedly still considering coming to the inauguration. Orbán endorsed Trump during his presidential campaign.

Tariffs on Chinese goods have long been a part of Trump’s campaign. Since winning the November election, Trump has floated a tariff as high as 10%.

Trump has already welcomed Argentina President Javier Milei and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to his Mar-a-Lago residence, with several weeks left until his inauguration. French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also met with Trump during his trip to Paris earlier this month.
