Kevin Costner Teases New Western Film
Actor Kevin Costner has hinted at a new Western film on Instagram, as he prepares to exit the hit television series “Yellowstone” later this year. The 68-year-old shared an image of a director’s chair in front of a stunning Western landscape, with the caption, “We’re deep into the production of #HorizonFilm, and, I have to tell you, I haven’t felt this way about a movie since we were making ‘Dances With Wolves.’ Can’t wait to share it with all of you.”
“Horizon” was announced in January 2022 and marks Costner’s first time directing a movie in two decades. His last directorial debut was in 2003 with “Open Range.”
Costner’s Personal Life
Costner has also made headlines recently after his wife of 18 years, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce earlier this month. The 49-year-old handbag designer cited “irreconcilable differences” and indicated that the couple would share custody of their three kids: Cayden, 15; Hayes, 14; and Grace, 12.
“Yellowstone” Spinoff Sequel
“Yellowstone” is coming to an end, but series creator Taylor Sheridan is already working on another spinoff sequel which will include Matthew McConaughey and a “handful of original Yellowstone cast members.” The show has been a massive hit for Paramount and has been credited with creating a renewed interest in the Western genre on television.
“Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” said Chris McCarthy, president & CEO Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.
“The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world,” CEO of 101 Studios David Glasser said.
Is “Yellowstone” a “Red-State Show”?
Despite its popularity with conservative audiences, Sheridan has refuted the idea that “Yellowstone” is a “red-state show.” “They refer to it as ‘the conservative show’ or ‘the Republican show’ or ‘the red-state Game of Thrones,'” the showrunner told The Atlantic in November. “And I just sit back laughing. I’m like, ‘Really?’ The show’s talking about the displacement of Native Americans and the way Native American women were treated and about corporate greed and the gentrification of the West, and land-grabbing. That’s a red-state show?”
