Superstar Kevin Costner recently revealed the reasons behind his departure from the hit Paramount TV series “Yellowstone” and hinted at a potential court battle over the show’s ending after Season 5.
During a court appearance related to his custody battle with his estranged wife Christine Baumgartner for their three children, the 68-year-old actor was asked about the drama surrounding his exit from “Yellowstone,” as reported by Fox News.

“Somewhere along the line, they wanted to change things,” Costner revealed about the filming process of “Yellowstone.” “They wanted to do 5A and 5B… affected ‘Horizon.’ I was going to do my movie ‘Horizon’ and leave that show, do my movie, then do B.”
“Horizon: An American Saga,” a four-part movie series, is currently in post-production, and Costner explained that the production schedule of his western drama clashed with the critical timing of ”Yellowstone.”
“A show I was only doing once a year, I was now doing twice,” the Hollywood star explained. He mentioned that he had initially been offered $24 million to do seasons five, six, and seven before all the scheduling conflicts arose and “Yellowstone” was ultimately canceled.
When asked if he had received a payout for Season 5, Costner added, “I will probably go to court over it,” indicating a potential legal battle in the future.
When pressed about being offered to do Season 6, the actor responded, “It was complicated,” suggesting that negotiations took place. He further explained, “There were issues about creative. I tried to break the log jam. They walked away.”
Earlier this year, rumors circulated that Costner was leaving “Yellowstone” at the height of its popularity. Some speculated that Baumgartner had influenced his decision before their split. She filed for divorce on May 1, citing “irreconcilable differences,” after 18 years of marriage.
The “Dances with Wolves” star was previously married to Cindy Costner, with whom he shares three children: Annie, Lily, and Joe. The couple divorced in 1994. He also has a son named Liam with Bridget Rooney.
