Kevin Costner’s ex-wife must pay his legal fees after her failed attempt to raise the monthly child support of $129,755.
Kevin Costner’s Ex-Wife Ordered to Pay His Legal Bills After Her Attempt to Increase $129,755 Monthly Child Support Backfires
In a surprising turn of events, Christine Baumgartner, the estranged wife of actor Kevin Costner, had her child support payments significantly reduced instead of receiving the increase she requested. The courtroom hearing in Santa Barbara, California, took an unexpected twist last Friday.
Baumgartner, who is a handbag designer, was previously receiving $129,755 per month from Costner. However, she sought an increase to $161,592 per month, according to Fox News. Unfortunately for her, the judge decided to decrease her payments to $63,209 instead.

Furthermore, during a subsequent hearing, Baumgartner’s request for Costner to pay her attorney’s fees was denied. Instead, the judge ordered her to pay Costner $14,237.50 in attorney’s fees that he had requested. Additionally, the judge refused to compel Costner to provide the financial documents Baumgartner had requested.
It seems that Baumgartner’s request did not go as planned, with the judge even remarking that he had spent a significant amount of time trying to understand what she lacked. This outcome is likely far from what she anticipated when she initially requested $248,000 in monthly child support payments back in June, as reported by People Magazine.
In her filing, Baumgartner claimed that even the larger figure was insufficient to maintain their children’s accustomed lifestyle. The court documents revealed that their family expenses amounted to $6,645,285 per year, excluding taxes. Astonishingly, their various homes alone required $2 million per year for upkeep.
Costner and Baumgartner have three children together: Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13. They have been married for 19 years since September 2004, according to Us Weekly. The couple first met on a golf course while Costner was preparing for his role in the 1996 film “Tin Cup.” At that time, Costner had already been divorced from his previous wife, Cindy, for two years. Costner also has another child from a previous relationship with Bridget Rooney.
Baumgartner filed for divorce in May, although court documents indicate that the couple had already separated a month prior to the filing. As a result of her failed attempt to increase child support, Baumgartner has been ordered to pay Costner’s legal bills.
