Kevin McCarthy intensifies feud with ‘Gaetz-led Crazy 8’

Kevin McCarthy Adds Fuel to Fiery Feud with ‘Crazy⁢ 8 Led by Gaetz’

Former Speaker of ‍the House Kevin McCarthy isn’t done with Rep. Matt Gaetz.

McCarthy blamed Gaetz for the House Republicans’ inability to elect a speaker in public remarks⁤ at the Capitol on Friday.

“Unfortunately, Jim [Jordan] ⁢is no longer⁣ going to be‌ the ‌nominee [for speaker].”

“What history will look⁢ at —⁢ the ⁣crazy eights led by Gaetz. The amount ⁣of damage they have done to this party⁤ and to this country is insurmountable.”

“I’ve never seen this amount of ‍damage‍ done to just a ‌few people, for their own personalities, for their own fear ⁢of what’s going⁣ through,” ‌McCarthy continued.

“We ⁤are in ‍a very bad position as a party, one that has won the majority, one that America has entrusted ‍us with, that a simple ‌eight people ⁢have put ‍us in this place.”

Should McCarthy tone down the⁤ language against Gaetz?

  • Yes
  • No

McCarthy was referring to the eight Republicans, ⁤including Gaetz, who voted to vacate him from the ⁤position of⁣ speaker earlier this ‍month.

To call ‍Gaetz and McCarthy intra-Republican rivals would be an understatement.

Gaetz ⁤ nearly⁢ prevented McCarthy‍ from becoming speaker ‌of the House in January before he⁣ finally secured a majority of support and the ⁣speaker’s gavel, according‌ to The⁣ New York Times.

Gaetz later led ⁢the charge to remove McCarthy as speaker.

Gaetz indicated he’d be willing to accept removal from the Republican caucus in ⁣order ‍to secure Rep. Jim Jordan’s bid for the speaker’s gavel on Friday.

In spite of his offer, Jordan bowed out of consideration⁤ for the speaker position, leaving House Republicans unmoored without a⁣ clear path towards electing a speaker.

The party is ⁤expected to hold a candidate forum for ⁤the position on Monday, according‌ to CNN.

McCarthy was unsure who would emerge as speaker candidates after Jordan’s candidacy⁣ failed.

What impact has McCarthy’s feud with Gaetz had on the Republican party’s ability to elect ‌a new speaker?

Kevin McCarthy,⁣ the former Speaker ⁢of the House, has once again ignited his feud with‍ Representative Matt Gaetz. In a recent ⁣public statement at the Capitol, McCarthy blamed Gaetz for the House Republicans’ failure to elect a speaker. ⁣This ⁣comes⁤ after Gaetz and seven⁣ other Republicans voted to ⁤remove McCarthy from the⁤ position earlier this month.

McCarthy’s comments were scathing, referring to Gaetz ⁣and his colleagues as the “crazy eights,” and claiming that they have caused irreparable damage to the party and the country. McCarthy expressed concern about the ‌future⁤ of the party,‌ stating that they are⁣ in a very bad position due‍ to the actions of ⁤a few individuals.

The tension between McCarthy and Gaetz is not new. Gaetz previously almost prevented McCarthy from becoming speaker in January, before ultimately securing enough‍ support. Gaetz then led the charge to‌ remove‌ McCarthy from the position. The animosity between the two is evident, and their rivalry has been a source of division within the Republican party.

Gaetz recently ⁢indicated that he would be willing to accept removal from the Republican caucus in order to support Jim⁤ Jordan’s bid for the speaker’s gavel. However, Jordan ultimately withdrew his candidacy, leaving House Republicans without ⁣a clear path forward in electing a new speaker. The party is set to hold ⁢a candidate⁤ forum on Monday to determine their next course of action.

It remains uncertain ⁤who will‌ emerge as ‌speaker candidates‌ following Jordan’s withdrawal. McCarthy, for his part, appears unsure of the future leadership of the party. This feud between McCarthy and Gaetz highlights the deep ⁢divisions within ⁢the Republican party and raises questions about their ‍ability to ⁢unite and effectively govern.

In conclusion, McCarthy’s recent remarks have added fuel to the fiery feud between him and Gaetz. The ongoing tension between the two has created ‍division within the Republican party and⁤ further complicates the process ‍of‌ electing a new speaker.⁤ It remains to be seen
